Anyone Else Watching Movies on MyLink Screen?

I had some time to kill last night and decided to see what was involved in getting movies to play on the MyLink screen. Turns out it was extremely easy. I have a small collection of ripped DVDs that I had shrunk down to iPod size, a couple of years ago. Basically, in my experience, the screen prefers *.mp4 videos, formatted at 480X320 (or a bit less). I had the best luck keeping my USB drive at about 8GB or less. I made a folder for each movie that was titled the same as the movie itself. I named my USB drive partition "LTZ" (in honor of the best truck I've owned yet). When I inserted the drive, I had to wait about 20 seconds, then I just pushed the Media button until LTZ showed up. There is an entire video player built in with all the needed buttons for navigation as well as play/pause, forward and reverse, etc. etc. There's a browse button that brings up all your videos. Just touch one and it begins to play. To switch to a different film, just touch the screen briefly, to bring up the controls and hit pause, then touch browse again and scroll up and down until you find the movie you want. Touch its name and it will begin playing.

No E-Brake needed and it continued to play as I changed to reverse and drive. I did not go out on an actual drive yet but, promising so far. My apologies if this is all old news and boring to everyone. I had only heard vague rumors of this before so I was pretty thrilled when it worked so easily.

Edited for clarity.

tried playing videos on that were saved on my usb drive from my dash came and it did not work. they were mp4's. it did play audio from a recording that I had but it did not even "see" the videos... not sure what I have to do different to get them to work.

Do you know your truck has to be in park? If not in park all you will get is audio.

Steve, I'm sure you're right. I was in my pajamas and no wallet with me so I did not go for a drive. I just rowed the shifter down to M and back to P and did not notice a change. By the time it got to this point, it was getting late so I left the rest of the experiment for today.

I found a youtube video of how to add movies. I actually found movies on youtube and then found a separate website that would convert to mp4 videos. I then loaded them to an SD card and played them that way. Pretty cool.

SteveBBB is correct. I went for a drive today and as soon as I pulled away from the curb, the screen went back to the Audio screen and the picture disappeared. I could only listen to the audio portion.

OK. Went to the website, what is the price??

Went to the link but couldn't find the price, also how do you play a dvd through my link, are you able to load one through the cd player with this upgrade. I never get into this stuff but with kids in the truck it might be handy.

Posted

My 2015 SD will play the blueray dvd, is that what you guys are talking about? It plays in both the infotainment and the rear bluray and then when I go to reverse only the rear dvd plays.

Posted

you can only play dvd/bluray if you have the rear seat entertainment package. the standard 8" screen won't play dvd's.

Thanks, I don't have the rear seat entertainment so looks it looks like I am out of luck.
