Well looking to by a new truck in 2015 but can't afford the new models so looking at used trucks. Now my dilemma. I don't want my boring 5.3 anymore I want 6.0 or the 6.2 I like the idea of having the 6.0..my father had a 2500 with a 6.0 and it was great motor and had zero problems with it but I heard a great things about the 6.2 also. If you guys had a choice which would you choose?

Yes,same as the Chevy's.

I've owned both, 2007 Vmax 6.0 4-speed with 3.73 gears and I also owned a 2011 6.2 SLT with 3.73 gears. Hand down, I'd take the 6.2L 6-speed if you can find one. They come at a premium too if you find one with lower mileage. Mileage was near the same between the 2 trucks daily driving but the 6.2L was definitely more peppy. Kind of like when comparing the 5.3L to the 6.0... its that much different.

Both trucks were tuned by Black bear too.

Although I have the 6.0 - 4 spd. 3.73 gears, because the 6.2 wasn't available in anything other than the GMC Denali's and Cadillac Escalade's at the time,I would look for the 6.2 - 6 spd.,which was offered starting in late '09. However if you find a great deal and a nice truck with the 6.0 I'd go for it!

Also keep in mind the 6.0 in your Fathers 2500 is different from the 6.0 in the 1500's.

The late model 2011+ HD 6.0 with the 6 speed is bullet proof in my opinion.

Thats what I have from new - 124,000 miles mostly highway and zero problems ! just oil changes & tires -

brakes & belt are still fine

That is why I pulled the trigger and got a 2015 2500HD with a 6.0L.

I know a couple guys with the 6.2's and here in the colder climate they sound like diesel's when they first start up. Dealers say the knocking is normal with them and claim its because they are built with looser tolerances...Not saying this makes them a lesser engine but its a bit un-nerving. We have a 2012 silverado HD with the 6.0 and that engine doesn't knock at all when you first start it up on the cold mornings....Just an observation...

Again just to remind everyone...the 6.0 in the 2500/3500 HD's is a different engine than the 6.0/6.2's in the 1500 1/2-tons. Not sure what the original poster is looking for,a 1500 or a 2500/3500 HD,but there is a difference.

I'm curious as to how the two 6.0l engines differ?

1500 6.0 from 07-13 was all aluminum. HD 6.0 was iron block. Had lower output

The Vmax 1500 6.0L had AFM too didn't they?

Is the former Chevy's 6.0 Aluminum and current 6.2 Aluminum have any relationship to the Cadillac Escalade engines over the years ?
