Trans issues

Either way , low speed driving needs to be fixed. I agree this happens when I "baby" it. But There are instances where u have to drive slow. my house is on a uphill with speed bumps every few hundred feet. It's impossible not to baby it.

Or what about in neighborhoods with kids playing ? Or parking lots? The 20-30 mph trans confusion is something I have never experienced before. How is this fixed?

I totally agree. If I go drop off or pick up my kid from school, that is all neighborhood and school zone driving. The truck wants to race down to a gear close to idle *and* have AFM enabled to boot. It does this to the point that it feels like its chugging, and banging around in gears getting there.

If they'd give a software update that just told it to stay back one gear in low speed neighborhood and city driving, I'd be ecstatic.

My 2014 is still trying to learn @ 5400 miles lol

I'm not going to turn this into bitch fest but the learn thing IMO is bs. The slow speed driving of this truck is horrid.

Does it take forever to get into 6th as well ?

Maybe your transmission is unteachable.

Not the trans but more like tunning or what ever they call it

I hear you, this "learning" stuff seems a little lame to me too.

My wife drives a 2014 Chevy 1500 5.3 we bought in Oct. of 2014 and I have a 2012 Chevy 3500 D/A. Recently we have started riding together to work using my wife's truck to keep the miles down on my truck since we will use it to pull our 5th wheel after we retire in a year or so. My observation after driving her truck for a couple of weeks now is that it rides good, has plenty of power and gets great mileage considering she came from a Dodge Hemi. But the transmission compared to my Allison is horrible. The thing is all over the place and never really seems to know what it wants to do. She had complained to me about it but I always thought it was all in her head until I started driving it daily. I sure hope they come up with a fix for this soon because we both like the truck but the transmission leaves a lot to be desired.

Could also be the gearing in the diffs. Mine never hunts for gears and I have 3.42's. If yall got 3.08 gears then that could be the cause of your gear hunting

Hers has the 3.42. I knew she would not be happy with the 3.08.

Congrats on the new truck. I would wait the 500 miles and see if there's an improvement. You are covered by warranty, and maybe your truck just needs an updated factory program. Otherwise, I think you'll be fine. The adaptive programming takes a little to settle in.

Post back results after your first 500 miles.

it has nothing to do with gears . Simply put the tune they put on this thing is horrid.

Sometimes when in slow driving ir surges ahead and then backs down. ALL in the same gear!

This is how I know its a shitty tune. The truck has no idea what it wants to do .

My personal favorite is when you're driving along up a small incline behind someone, slightly decreasing in speed, and the truck decides to downshift. I love the abrupt transmission braking, followed by the loud clunk, and then finally the downshift. I'm sure it's all designed for mileage, right?

Good reading in here, and from what I read in the past week, I figured I'd give my new truck about 1000 miles before I posted.

However, something has stumped me today.

My 2 week old 2015 truck now has 7xx miles on it (5.3 w/3.42) and still seems pretty unpredictable and odd shifting. I dropped it off at the dealership today to have the running boards put on and a ding taken out (got dinged in the new car lot I am assuming). Anywho, they gave me a 2015 loaner truck that has only 12 miles on it. This loaner truck shifts like a king compared to mine. So I don't know if I buy into the learning/1000 mile break in. The loaner is a 5.3 w/3.08. I don't think the issue is the difference in gears, although they are different.

I test drove about a dozen Silverado/Sierras before buying mine and they all drove great. The only difference I could detect was the 3.42 felt better than the 3.08, so I ended up with a 3.42.

There have been several transmission ECM/BCM software updates. Just because yours is a new 15, there might be an update available that would solve your problem. I would start there.
