2015 Sierra SLT

Hey Everyone!

Brand new to the forums, came across them a few days ago and I've been doing my share of reading ;)

Taking the plunge and buying a new 2015 Sierra. I'm looking for a pretty specific model, so the dealership down the road had to do some searching for me. This, along with buying a new truck and moving out of a smaller economical car has raised quite a few questions that I haven't been able to find some answers to.

Starting out, I worked a deal with the dealership on a truck they ended up not having. They searched for the vehicle I'm interested in and are working with another dealership to get it into their own inventory to sell it to me. It seemed as if these dealer to dealer trades are fairly common, though I've never heard of it. Providing they can get it into inventory, the price is right and I'm buying.

So, my pre-buying questions to you experienced folk:

- The dealership is requesting a commitment from me, but it seems to be just verbal. If the vehicle is in any other than perfect shape upon arrival, I should be able to walk, correct?

- I read about the headlight issue and that dealerships are fixing it now? Is there something I can ask for? I believe I read there is a specific document regarding it.

...and so I can get it ordered, does anyone have a recommendation for a new engine additive? And is scotch guard recommended on perforated leather?

I'm full of questions, but I'll let them come as I get deeper into the rabbit hole.

Excited to be a part of the forums, I'll get some pictures up soon of the trade in. She's a pretty little 2009 Ford Focus SES Coupe.

Hoping to get the deal taken care of yet this week!

my truck was a dealer to dealer trade. Its pretty common. You will get to inspect the truck before taking delivery. I actually had all the paperwork signed and paid for the vehicle before it got there. But I still had to take delivery before everything was final.

Mine is same as above. They had to go about 1000 miles to get mine.

There is a sticky talking about the headlight issues with all the info you will need, yes headlights suck but there is a fix. I'm bringing mine in Thursday.

I personally wouldn't use any additive in the motor or worry about the leather.

even if you make a "verbal" agreement to buy the truck and when it comes it had issues, yes you can walk (obviously depending on what your state laws are they could take you to court blah blah blah but they wont).

headlights, eh.... depending on when your truck was built they may or may not have the "new" lights compared to the ones they were originally putting in these trucks. but from what I have read they are also sub-par. just get aftermarket HID's and be done with it.

DO NOT buy any of the weasel grease they try to sell you while signing the papers except for the GM extended warranty. DO NOT let them sell you joe blows extended warranty, only buy GMPP if you want one, but it is not a necessity. So no in my opinion scotch guard is not needed and if you want it you can go buy it yourself at home depot and do it for prob 1/4 of the cost.

Yep....bought plenty of vehicles on dealer trade and if you don't take delivery .... the deal is not concluded. Good luck.

Dealer trades happen all the time, ask up-front how they are going to get the vehicle from the other dealer to theirs, ie: flat-bed tow, drive or car carrier, as YOU will most likely be paying for it to come to the dealer.

Do a good inspection of the truck, how many km's / miles are on it, was it a demo bitch and get shit-kicked by someone who wanted to drive it? If there is high km/s miles, negotiate a better price.

As for the lights, I have the update completed, write it into the contract.

Not sure what engine additive you would be adding? I did nothing with my perforated leather other than keep it clean.

Watch out, sometimes dealers will charge YOU for the dealer trade. If you can located the vehicle they are trying to get for you, I would go there and see what deal you can work out.

Thanks for the advice guys.

This has been a difficult process to say the least. I'm not too satisfied with the dealership here, but its all we have in such a small town... otherwise I would have walked already. Still working on the dealer to dealer transfer.

Whitestallion, I think I will be going straight to the HID's. Pretty big importance on visibility, to bad that falls on the consumer to improve.

Those, along with spray in and tonneau, weathertech mats, front tint, leveling, and new LED's!

This is what I'm trading in. I'll miss her, perfect for the mileage I was putting on back in 2009, but now, its just not comfortable. With a dog, the two door is a pain, and the manual has switched from "fun" to "necessary".
More info to come.

There's a certain amount of cost to the dealership to do a trade, regardless of method. A couple hundred bucks for someone's time to drive a vehicle out and your back is perfectly reasonable. The part -I- hate is that your brand new car got its initial break-in miles by some lot monkey that I don't have a clue how they drive or treat a vehicle.

Avoid engine additives... They're nothing but snake oil. Any additives that belong in the motor are already there from the factory. Follow your initial break-in guidance and initial maintenance requirements, and you'll be fine.

Personally, I use 303 Aerospace Protectant on a lot of the interior parts of my cars along with Luxol leather conditioner. I hate WeatherTech and anything they produce (including the visors that I have on my truck - not much else to choose from), so I use Husky Weatherbeater mats. I got a full set (including the piece for the center hump up front and full-width mat for the back) for a little over $200.

Line-X spray in liner, and a Bak HD cover (which I'm seriously regretting).

Big Day Today!!

Ember, Thanks for the insight. Would you recommend the Weatherbeaters? I have a dog, I want something easy to vaccum with his shedding.

I haven't been able to find a place in town that offers Line-X! My boys got pretty tough claws, any worries of him flaking that liner? It'll be worth the drive if it stands up to him.

I'm pretty sold on the Truxedo Low Pro QT. Is the first investment.

Husky makes a great product, I have used them for last 6 vehicles counting my wifes. Don't worry about the bed liner, either Line-X or Rhinoliner. I have owned both and have never had one flake or peel and that includes hauling landscape rock and cinder blocks.

I really like the Weatherbeater mats in this truck. They're definitely a modified molding process compared to the previous versions of the mats that I've had in other vehicles. They cover excellent, stay put, have a lifetime warranty, look good, and are definitely a great value. If you look up the part number(s) from the Husky web site and search them out on eBay, look for someone selling them with a "Best Offer" option. I managed to get the two front mats, the full width rear mat, and the center "hump" mat for $205 shipped. I made offers on the different items to a single vendor with the contingency that he accept my other offers and he accepted both (the mats were one part number, the center hump mat was separate).

The Weatherbeater mats will definitely clean out easily for you. Pull them out, hit them with the hose, and put them back.

I've never had a spray-in liner in the past. When I bought this truck, I opted for the GM drop-in liner. I had absolutely no idea at the time that the drop-in liner required installation with TEN self-tapping screws into the bed and the tailgate. I wasn't happy, and brought it up with the dealer. They did right by me and offered to take the drop-in liner back out and send it out to Line-X. I called the installer and talked with him about his process and got a really good sense that he knew how to do the installation correctly. I couldn't be happier with the quality of his work (and the installer makes all the difference). Find an installer, give him a call, and talk to him about the liner and its warranty as well as his prep and install process.

You do NOT want an installer that uses a chemical etch prep process... Manual sanding or dual-action power buffing is the way to go. The whole process should take them at LEAST two hours to complete the install and they need to do little things like removing the access panel from the tailgate and spraying separate as well as removing the whole tailgate from the truck.

Ya get the top of the line from Husky s1erra. I have weathertech now and both sides have warped completely from interior heat. Spray in bed liners do not flake. It's pretty much impossible to take off. I have arma coating but use who-ever, they are pretty much all the same. Oh and dealer trade fees are quite normal, although they can be negotiated out of the deal. I ordered my last 2 trucks so I got exactly what I wanted.

While there is some truth to this, you do have to be smart about it. Line-X and Rhino, when applied using a Hot Process, are essentially the same. I wouldn't want any of the ones that use a cold application process, however, as they don't go on nice and smooth and they -will- flake over time. Again, though, the preparation process is key... An installer that takes their time and uses some sort of mechanical process like sanding will provide a liner that will hold up very well.

Absolutely do not go weathertech my fronts fit horrible, haven't installed my back yet because the colors are not even close, my back has been in the garage since Dec, the dog needs to go to the vet so I opened them and wentvyo put in and freaked out, cant return them (10 days return policy) I called WT and while she was polite there was no help offered, I will never again bye a WT product
