Thoughts on trading in 2014 on a 2015??

Guys, the wife and I took the kids to Colorado last October and fell in love with the place. We have decided we will be moving there from Houston sometime within the next year. We need to get some bills paid off and get the house sold of course and make sure we have employment before we go. The people I have talked to said i need a 4wd there for the occasional snow and ice and rear wheel drive is not good for some of the places I want to go. I have a 2014 sierra slt cc 2wd with the 6.2. I want basically the same truck because I love it ( except for the occasional transmission slamming in and out of gear or the tranny not going when I slam on the gas). I have talked to my salesman and the best way for me to get what I want is order it. The last few I found on lots were only 1k to 1500 cheaper than the denali 4wd. I can order online and get it for 46k instead of 54k. I have never ordered a vehicle so this is where I need advice. Is there anything I need to look out for or be cautious of before doing so. Any tips would be appreciated. Sorry for the long, drawn out explanation.

Do the denalis not have anything that your SLT does? For $1k I would think it would make sense to get the denali and have 4wd than order an SLT without to save $1k.

The big thing there is the price. Didn't want to spend 55k for the denali or 54k for the slt 4wd I found on the lot. Not if I can order a slt cc 4wd with the 6.2 for 46k. Almost 10k difference. The dealership said i would still be in the 52 to 53k range out the door. If i order it at the 46k range even out the door it will be around 49k.

you should be getting a denali for around 50k plus tax, if you decided to go that route

You definitely whittled them down. I haven't had that kind of luck. The common discount I've seen with GM incentives was in the $7-8K range. Although I did buy my 08 during the recession for about $13k less than sticker.

Also was planning on lifting the truck a little so the denali was looking less desirable with the magnetic ride.

They have no slt cc 4wd with the 6.2 for 450 miles in their computers now but one. All others have sold and the one in Louisiana is 54700.

The 6.2 are popular motors. The dealer rep at Beck and Masten told me he gets at least 3 calls a day people asking for the 6.2s.

Hopefully mine will be here end of April.

Where in Colorado do you plan on relocating to? If you are going to lower altitude and don't plan on going to the mountains to ski, go off road, or snowmobile you may be fine with your 2 wheel drive. If you have the Eaton locker and put a little weight in the back, you can get around fine on snow packed roads. If you want to live in the hills or plan on driving through the mountains a lot you will need 4 wheel drive. We got along fine for long time with rear wheel drive vehicles here in Colorado.

Connrad, that is where I bought my truck was Beck n masten on the north side of houston. I looked at that denali 4wd they had a week or 2 ago with the 6.2 and it was gone in 2 days. The 6.2's in Houston don't stay on the lot long.

Northside, we really like Fort Collins/ Loveland area but maybe somewhere else depending on employment. I will be in the mountains for sure with my family as much as possible because that is the main reason we are moving there. It is the most beautiful place we have ever seen.

I'm not far from there. I love Ft. Collins and have a good friend in Loveland.

The reason I mentioned maybe keeping the truck you have for a while is you won't need 4WD for snow along the Front Range until around Thanksgiving most years. A lot of people get by without it all together. So you don't need to rush. Trading a '14 for a '15 will be a big hit financially. We actually get a lot less snow here than people think. It's not like the Midwest where the snow stays on the ground all winter. 60 degrees and low humidity is common all winter, and the sun melts the snow through the thin air pretty fast. I ride my motorcycles every month of the year. You never know though. We can get big snows and having a 4WD is a big advantage when that happens. I only used my Auto 4WD three or four times this winter. Some folks just get a little all wheel drive beater for snowy weather and keep their nice ride in the garage 'til it clears up. Good luck with the move. After a summer here you won't want to go back to that Houston humidity.

If you're happy with the truck you have then maybe look at a good used jeep for the price difference of trading in the truck you have for a new one. I got rid of my 98 Z71 4X4 for my 14 silverado LT 2wd & kept my 06 jeep tj for the price difference of another 4X4 truck.
