I have been looking into this. My goal is not to move the power band to much

That's an Gen III cam, for like an LS1 type engine (Think 1998-2002 Camaro). Wouldn't work in our trucks.

Stock LT1/L86 camshaft;

 

0.551/.524-inch lift, 200/207 duration @ 0.050, 116.5 LSA

Eh, I knew it looked weird. grabbed it from Performance trucks, on of the 2015 guys was going to toss it in his and it looked good.

 

Comp cams have been having issues lately.

Issues with what? I just talked to Chris about camshafts last week and he said nothing about any issues and I have dealt with him for 20+ years.

Widely known for being the biggest cam you want to run on a stock headed car without sacrificing usable power and drivability. Features Comp’s relatively newer XE (Xtreme Energy) lobes for increased top-end power. Has a very strong mid-range with strong top-end power without much if any loss in the low-end. Similar to the GM846 and good for a solid 10-15hp/tq throughout over the “Hot Cam”, cc305 etc. May have some cam surge, depends how good the tune is.

Pass Emissions?: No, requires tuning to pass

Shift Point for Maximum Performance: 6200-6400rpm

Idle Characteristics: Choppy Idle

M6; Require Gears?: No

A4; Require Stall?: 2500+ Stall Speed

 

That's actually a Gen II LT1 cam as in 1992-1997.

Comp cams is waiting on cores. They have been for a while. They are rejecting core shipments based on quality issue.

 

Im looking for a cam.

Comp cams has 4 cams available for our afm

Heads no go but cam will swap. better off with a real power making cam though.

As you know I need the truck to smog because California. I've been looking for cams to go along with a tvs 1900

 

I live in Florida, no smog regulations here. I would like to upgrade the cam but I know I will loose mpgs with that. I'm on the highway 90% of my week, to and from work. So I would like a cam that is some kind of an upgrade but not so much that it would kill my mpgs. Everything I'm doing is to improve mpgs as much as possible but also upgrade my truck as I see fit.

 

I do want to lift it, not much at all, no more than 4in with spindles, camber, and add-a-leafs. I know that will affect mpgs but that's why I'm doing as much as possible to keep as much mpgs as possible while doing my upgrades. Also I don't want a camshaft that I will have to disable the DOD or VVT. Again, I'm on the highway far too much for that. I have a tonneau cover installed and see the major difference in mpgs without it. I have an Ecometer set to instant mpgs and it's incredibly helpful.

 

I want to add the L86 intake manifold along with the throttle body from Jet Powr-Flo for the camaro ss or a larger TB that won't throw codes. That combined with the L86 cam should give a nice bump in power and not kill my mpgs too much. I already have AirRaid MIT intake tube installed, getting long tube headers and offroad 3in/3out ypipe and already did the muffler delete and re-directed the exhaust to come out before the rear tire. ***See Photos.

 

I don't care about how loud it will be, that doesn't bother me. I have 3.42s from the factory, replaced the factory 20s for 22x9.5 with 32inch tires. Calculating that I should upgrade to 3.73s to make everything match up correctly but I'm getting good gas now as it is even without a tune but that will be done once I get all the other items and all done at once.

How much would it cost to port and polish the heads more or less? If I do a basic port and polish do I still need to upgrade the valvetrain or can I reuse my stock pieces if in good condition??

Only difference on the engine itself is bore size all other parts except heads will bolt on.

Good so the cam is a direct swap just like the intake manifold. Nice.

6.2L camshaft for $111. Not bad I say.

So when swaping out cams for one of the comp cams or even the stock 6.2L cam I am assuming you have to swap out the lifters aswell correct since they are mated to the current cam already? Ive never done a cam swap other then when building an entire engine and I had somebody much smarter then I to help tell me what would be the best came for what I was going for. I would like to install a cam that will retain AFM and give me a nice boost in HP but nothing stupid. I would also like to get that choppy idle as well. Could anybody point me in the right direction and let me know if I would need to order new lifters? I am guessing the pushrods can be reused.
