3.08 lift options

Not trying to steal the thread from OP, but I have 3.08 as well and once I wear out the stock tires, I'm going to go with some Toyo MT or AT2 in a 33. I've really been talking myself into a re-gear down the road. My question is with 3.08 now and lets say 33's, would 3.73 be an effective ratio? Don't think I need 4.10. If i'm going to spend the money, I think 3.73 should be right on the money. What do yall think?

Another question I've been curious about is to those of you with 3.08 and a tune, does it help with downshifting on the highway? I run M5 most of the time, until I'm cruising down the interstate, then I go up to M6 or drive, but anytime I need to accelerate, whether it's a little or a lot, the truck will downshift 1-2 gears. I had my last truck tuned and it did wonders. Been looking into getting a tune for some time on this one. Just curious as if this will help this issue.

I've got 3.08's and and Toyo Open Country AT2's 285/70R17's and I do have the Intune. I thought my truck shifted funky when I first got it but with the Intune its night and day difference. The ECM and TCM tunes I think work great. No more of that transmission seeming like its confused and not knowing how to shift. And also the sluggish gas petal response. I feel my truck runs great with this setup. I've also been using E85 which give it a little more power.

There are several other thread going on that discuss this stuff. A tranny shifting issue one where everyone getting tunes are much happier. There's a good blackbear vs intune thread that's got good info too. But in any case with or without larger tires I think a tune really wakes these trucks up. Money well spent in my opinion.

I'd like to hear some comments on re-gearing also just out of curiousity. For me I'm guessing the cost of new gears wouldn't be worth it for how I typically use my truck.

I have the 3.42s and will be doing a 4" lift and 33s. Even that scares me a little. I wish these things had the 3.92s like the Rams.

I can't imagine running a 12" and 35s with only 3.08s.. yikes. If I were you I'd regear to at least 4.10. 12" lift... holy crap dude. And here I thought 6" is too much. You shoulda bought a diesel.

I strongly agree, i did want a diesel, just didnt want to spend the extra money for it, now wishing that id got it

Most Ram's come standard with 3.55's. The 3.92's are their max tow package so you see them a lot less often, kinda like a GM 1500 with 3.73's these days lol

So although I've felt my truck runs fine with 3.08's and larger tires this might be good reason or proof it may not be the best idea. See my attached image on what my dealership said regarding a slight vibrations I was feeling. And to add to this these same larger tires I had swapped onto the 2014 I did not have the issue in my 2005 with 3.42's.

There's your problem! You haven't disabled AFM yet. I don't know how people can stand V4 with a bone stock truck let-alone a modded one lol.

I never really noticed much of a difference when in v8 vs v4 but never really paid too close attention either. I've been wanting to do some mpg comparisons anyway between 87 and E85 so might as well add AFM on and off in the mix too. Sounds like most everyone prefers AFM off might as well join the crowd.
