I have a 87 k5 I'm bebating on whatotor to pur in to it. I have the 350 that came with it and also a 93 454. This k5 will see mud and trail riding with my family and friends and some towing.

The most popular GM engine is of course the 350 so there's no shortage of 350 parts and upgrade mods. What you could do if you have the money is to turn the 350 that's already in it into a 383 stroker. It would save you form buying a new block and it would be a torque monster. That's what I would do if I was in your situation. If money was no object I would put a GM 572 crate engine in it and maybe put a blower on it.

The 454 could be a beast and no shortage of big block parta

All the mud guys round here all run Big Blocks, no replacement for that big torque when trying to sling mud with giant tires

I've owned plenty of both and built plenty of both. For my vehicle, if I had a choice between a small and a big block and had to build what was going in, I'd pick the big block every time.

The cost is going to be very close, maybe a bit more on some parts for the rat motor. All the machine work will be about the same and the work is the same.

you can build a 350 to run well with lots of torque and hp with the right heads and cam. Since you already have a 93 454 build that or you could always do a crate motor.
