Zimtok Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 I received 3 keys from the previous owner of my 04 Yukon XL. Two are cut the same, the other one is cut differently on one side. The odd key only works if you put it in "the right way". What is this odd cut key for? .
Chris Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 Could be a valet key that doesnt allow it open other things
Zimtok Posted June 8, 2015 Author Posted June 8, 2015 I was thinking that also. But there is no lock on the glove box or center console. Everything seems to work on the vehicle, radio, temp controls, etc. The only thing that works different is the door lock. it allows you to unlock the door with the key but not lock it with the key. .

Is it a genuine GM key? Or is it a copy? Sounds like a hack job copy made for whatever reason by the previous owner. I've only ever known vehicles to come with two genuine GM keys.
00Silverado4x4 Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 Will the odd key allow you to start the vehicle? If not I'd say it's a "just in case" hide a key for when you lock yourself out.
Zimtok Posted June 8, 2015 Author Posted June 8, 2015 It is unknown if the keys are original GM. Can you tell by the attached photo? It will start the vehicle and allow everything to work. .
Zimtok Posted June 9, 2015 Author Posted June 9, 2015 The key was cut to work on two different vehicles. . I would never have thought of that.... I don't think the previous owner would have known that or had it done. .

newdude Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 I'd get some duplicates of the good one or a couple right from the key code and toss that messed up one.
Chris Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 Go to dealer with vin, registration, and your ID and have one cut from their system. You will then have a GM key and it costs like $$8
