WooHoo! 17.8 MPG

Went to Charlotte over the weekend from Atlanta, averaged 75-80mph, trusty little onboard computer said 16.2 average (well, ok). Filled up and did the math, actual was 17.8!

Figured this truck would be a gas hog but was pleasantly surprised at the outcome. My '99Z71 routinely got 17+.

I still seem to get around 2-3 extra mpg while using premium fuels, the ecm must be adding a bunch more timing relative to the knock sensor enjoying the extra octane.

btw- we did quite a bit of local driving and some traffic stop and go trying to get into the track at Lowes motor speedway. It wasn't all highway driving, possibly break the 18 mark if that was the case.

Has anybody else done seen similar results with the added octane???

Havent tried the octane thing, I only use 87 because I dont like switching from a higher grade back to a lower grade. I have gained 2 mpg the last 2 times I have filled up, guess its the warmer weather we have been having because I havent changed my driving style. I have been right at 18 mpg the last 2 weeks, it used to be 16 mpg, just a few weeks ago????

I hit 18.9 on a trip back from Orlando. It was straight interstate driving at 70 to 80 mph.  Right before I left I filled up with Super.  It surprised me to get that high also. Felt good.  :thumb:

Well..........  I'm lucky If I get 16.  I wonder if there is something better about the Denali's???

Let's see, 6.0 ltr motor, quadrasteer, Dana 60 rear, looks more thirsty than anything else.

I wanted the Max/Alison but couldn't resist the deal on this. The window sticker at 12/15 didn't sit too well having to commute 40+ miles a day.

To me the savings isn't the important part, having to stop for gas sucks.

I have been gettin my 18 mpg doing my drive from school and back, which is some city driving and alot of hilly driving (3rd instead of OD). Thats why I am so happy with my 18, if I had an interstate trip I would hope for 20 or more.

Best I got was almost 21 on the interstate going to tennessee last summer, with about 300 pounds of weight in the bed, I think that might have helped the milage!

I hate you all.  My 99 Tahoe is averaging 13 MPG and I was at about 15 to 17 on my trip to Buffalo.  Never really got a good accurate reading do to the fact that I wasn't able to fill up after I got home because I am broke right now.  LOL. I was able to go 400 miles before I hit the red in the gas guage.  So that isn't that bad.  I just thought I would have been doing better.

Man, my truck averages 10.4! ???  :flag:

Man, I don't know what to tell ya. My '99 Z71 Ext Cab Sierra 5.3 got routinely 17.5mpg. I'm not exactly heavy footed (leave that to the wife in the infinity), but I do have a pretty strong desire for HP.

The little convenience center in the new one Definately makes me more aware of fuel consumption. (even though it reads quite conservatively).

Maybe I should pull the vortech T-trim from the cobra and see what it can do in the truck...

Thats good my mom's 2003 duramax is only getting 16mpg on the highway but its new and ive been told you have to wait a few thousand clicks for the mileage on the dmax.

the 5.7 in my Denali 4WD is getting 11.4 combined.  I picked up 1MPG from a tune up.  Sucks.  I am hoping it has something to do with the tires being 1" larger than stock and no recalibration being done.

Dave, I have been amazed as to what tire pressures do for long range milage. As far as all else considered, my old '95 camaro when N/A got 3 more miles to the gallon with 4.10s then with the original 3.42 gears; go figure...

A lot has to do with driving style as well as mods. I'm sorry to see that a lot of people with the K&N and Volant are seeing LESS MPG than with the stock set-up. I was hoping for a few extra ponies with at least the same MPG. (granted I WILL sacrifice if the newfound HP is noticable.) I've even been thinking on what my old vortech S-trim would do on this truck. hmmmm
