How can I protect the door sills from getting scuffs when my kids get in the truck thank you

GM sells sill covers ... somewhat fancier ... no sure if they're skuff proof

The sill covers that GM sells are replacements/upgrades for those trucks that come with the plain black plastic sills. I think what the OP is looking for is for something that protects the lower painted sills. GM use to make stainless steel sills for the 2007-2013 Sierras/Silverados but they don't offer them for the 2014+ models.

For me personally this is the route I'll be going. I'd prefer the stainless option over the film, but GM doesn't make them for the new body style. I already have the Llumar paint protection film on my hood and I like it a lot, so that's what I will end up doing on the painted portion of the sills.
