Side mount cargo tie down preference

2014 silverado, finally getting around to ordering some tie downs that mount in the side and front of bed. No it wasn't one of my options. I have a few questions.

-do you prefer one over the other (Bull Ring tie downs with retractable piece, Dee Zee tie downs, or the GM factory ones.

- how many to get? I can't guess how many I will use(neither can you). Nine seems like overkill, and maybe not worth the money.

-the factory rubber plugs are "bedlinered" over them, does one brand work better when dealing with that?

-I could go the GM route and move them if necessary, the ones in the front of the bed would be in the way if I tied something right up to the front of the bed.

I looked for this topic in the search engine and found some replies, but thought maybe there were some new thoughts.

Also where is the best deal?

Thanks!

I bought the Bull Rings. Ebay $10 each free shipping. The day after I bought them, the price was increased to $18 each. I did 6 primarily because of the price.

I had to cut out the plugs because the spray in liner covered them. After that, the install was about 12 minutes for 6 of them.

PS... my son's '15 Sierra has the GM tie downs. To be honest, I like them better than the Bull Rings. They just seem more sturdy.

Well, I have the Bull Rings in a '13 HD and I'm not sure if they are the same for the '14s. I started with four and then ordered the rest to fill all nine holes. I've used all but a couple in the last two years. I did not have a liner but I expect they will work on top of a sprayed liner. You will probably have to cut around the old plugs to get them out.

The Bulls are a little tricky to install but after the first one you will get the hang of it. You cannot break one and they are rated to be stronger than the bed side.

I bought mine from Realtruck but you need to do your research price-wise. IIRC, If you buy from Bull Ring they will throw in the ninth but RT had a better price. No matter what you buy, you are not going to want to move them around. It is a little pricey to do all at once but you'll get your best price that way....and you won't be sorry.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

I bought the GM tie downs. I went with them because I have a spray in liner and the plugs got sprayed over. The "trim" on the GM tie downs looked bigger. I thought if I didn't do a good job trimming around the plugs it would cover my mistakes better. They are super handy and I'm really pleased with them. I don't have any experience with bull rings or deezee, but I doubt you can go wrong with any of them.

I have a Bedrug liner in my truck and a combination of the GM rings and Bullrings. I use the GM rings in the 4 corners upward of the welded anchors and Bullrings in the middle above the wheel wells and center behind the cab. And yes, I've used all of them too.

I purchased the Bullrings from Bullring; they had a special price on them when I bought them in 2014 along with some great cargo straps (and they are just down the road from me in Boerne, TX). I did an Internet search for the GM rings and bought them from a dealer that has an Internet store in Dallas. Just search the web once you figure out what you want to get the best price.

I bought nine from Bull Rings, got them shipped to my house for $101.00. I debated how many and then thought I would wish I had one where I didn't, and if I keep the truck a few years, (last one was 13 years), that I would get my money worth out of them..I cut out the plugs and spray on bedliner so I am all ready.

I have the Dee Zee tie downs as well. 6 of them. I'll probably add 2 more soon. Install and work fine for me.

I have the GM tie downs and am pleased with them. I have not used any others so I cannot compare them to anything.

I bought the GM tie downs as well and they seem really sturdy. I have the crappy GM plastic bed liner, the one without the pre-cut tie down holes. To make it look more "clean" I took out the bed liner and used a hole saw at the dimples (the far back and far front side ones) and cut a hold just big enough for the tie down to stick out. Put in the tie downs and re-installed my bedliner.

They drill into the bed to hold the plastic bed liners in place don't they? Would these tie downs If you used all 9 locations be an alternative to drilling and hold the liner in place?
