Does anybody know how many amps the 110V electrical outlets can handle? I'm wondering if I can run a Coleman air bed pump from one of these? Is it about the same as the 12V plug or more/less? I want to buy an air pump for camping, but I also want to be able to use it around the house, so 110V version is preferable it the truck can run it.

The alternating current (AC) accessory power outlet system consists of the accessory DC/AC power inverter module and the accessory power receptacle – 110 V AC. The accessory DC/AC power inverter module converts 12 V direct current (DC) battery power to 110 V at 60 Hertz (Hz) AC power to operate AC powered devices. The accessory DC/AC power inverter module provides up to 150 watts of power. The accessory power receptacle – 110 V AC provides the usual connection for AC powered devices.

The AC outlet is a joke. I plugged my Makita charger into it, and it tripped immediately. Why even put on in there in the first place?

 

You can plug the pump in and see if it trips.

P=VI (Power (watts) = Voltage (volts) x Current (amps))

 

With the numbers provided above, the available current (I, in amps)

should be...

 

I = 150/12 = 12.5 A

Don't know the specs but can tell you I tried using my 400w invertor to plug in a pump for an air mattress and it cut out immediately. I doubt the factory 110v plug will allow you to run that pump.

So, it looks like the 120V pump runs at ~250 watts after the initial ~450 watt surge. That won't cut it. I guess I'm going with the 12V pump.

12.5 amps should be plenty for most household appliances, even a microwave or a small refrigerator. I'd imagine, though, that you want to pull this much amperage only with the alternator turning/engine running.

Maybe I'm wrong, but the outlet is 120v, correct? So wouldn't it be I = 150/120, or 1.25A?

This is 120v AC, not 12v DC....

You are correct sir! :)

 

And on top of it from my experience with the outlet, it looks likes its a modified sine wave inverter and not a pure sine wave inverter. This means that there are certain things like some chargers will not be too happy on that modified sine wave.

You will be fine, I have done this many times with no issue.

Nerd, maybe but correct, no.

 

Your formula is correct, but you solved for the 12V amperage and not the 110V amperage. Since the pump in question is a 110V device, it's THAT amperage that will dictate whether or not its current draw is too much.

    • Can ask that about a lot of places.   Holiday sells 91 for $1 over 87 octane. BP 93 is 80 cents. Amoco 93 is 80 cents Kwik Trips is $1.20 for 92 or whatever they have and $1 for the 91.   I know that this is not exactly same as what you are saying with the premium to premium debate of those two stations but why is there such a difference. Top Tier this and that, it's all BS. All the fuel comes from the same damn refinery, so give me a break.
    • Why does Mobil Premium cost 90 cents a gallon more than Shell Premium when their regular offerings are but pennies apart? 
    • Was all the way down to $3.69 a gallon but then jumped back to $3.99 just because for some reason.   Diesel floats between $4.80's to $5.10ish a gallon. I even saw Diesel #1 for $6.09 today but nobody in there right mind even buys that in the summer.
    • Mine just keeps lagging or getting stuck on the reverse camera. When I turn off the truck, get out, and close the door it will still stay on. It’s very intermittent and I would not be able to duplicate the issue. 
    • I was checking out fuel prices at my farm fuel retailer at their pumps and yes the farm price is a bit lower than the non dyed fuel and was glad to see that the regular farm gas price has dropped a lot from what it had been but what blew me away was the price of diesel as the spread now compared to before the prices went up earlier in the year, diesel was actually slightly lower than gas which was a switch from the theme the last number of years. However that sure isn't the theme lately and definitely not right now. The prices I will post are not from that retailer but just looking at gasbuddy for the main city in this area and instead of posting the lowest price someone found I will list the higher price ( and that may not be the highest price, just whatever someone posted on gasbuddy ).   So regular gas and there are a lot of stations listing the same price for regular is 1.68 a liter, premium 2.00 a liter. Diesel 2.03 a liter for a top price I saw on diesel.   Figures out to 6.36 a us gallon Canadian funds for regular and 7.68 for diesel. With the US exchange rate it would be 4.58 us for regular and 5.53 for diesel.    Thought I would figure that out to get a picture of what it settles out like compared to various US prices and its about the same as the current price in Fairbanks AK as Anchorage tends to be lower. So yes, these would be the prices and higher along the way on the Alaska highway where they know they have a captured market !, for fuel prices for those beginning the long drive back to the lower 48   The problem is our Canadian dollar and going to the states that have the high prices, boy do we pay then !
