I've had about enough with this Sierra

I've had 2 '14s, I posted here many times and basically said ALL of the 14's and 15's vibrate to some degree and have some pretty glaring issues, to which many people replied - "I have no issues" - yet, #1 - I have put a total of 50,000 miles between the 2 I had (and I KNOW very few people have put that many miles on them, let alone already have had TWO), I also have a close friend who is on his THIRD truck - 2 legit buy backs, now on a '15 lease denali FULLY loaded, truck's a POS, its currently @ the dealer getting a full rear end replacement. So suffice it to say I'm more "experienced" w/ these POS trucks than the guys who say "my truck is fine" and they pu**y foot around town picking up 2 bags of mulch on their way to clocking a whopping 8,000 miles a year.

So to all you guys out there who think "your truck is fine and we're all crazy" - maybe you're just not very good at noticing things, maybe you're brainwashed, or quite frankly maybe you're just not very bright. These trucks all have issues - even the service mgr AND THE GM ENGINEER THEY SENT OUT TWO TIMES to investigate my vibrating truck w/ a pico or whatever instrument both threw their hands up after the dog and pony charade and said, (not on the record) - "Sir, all these trucks vibrate, GM knows it, the engineers know it, we don't know exactly what the fix is some things work others don't, but the truth is they all have vibration issues to some degree"

and that's just ONE of the many problems.

Oh - and I recently totaled my 2nd one that has 40,000 on it, that has given me: delayed touch screen response, screen/gauge cluster blacking out intermittenly @ random, backup camera cutting out and/or staying ON while in drive randomly, "high frequency radio interference sound" (no other way to explain it) when in 4x4 mode emitting from dash, random LOUD snaps and cracks and mechanical sounds emitting from dash, creaky seat that "pops" around corners, a rusting frame, a sloppy transmission, and a tailgate latch that feels like its about to break too.

So maybe swerving to avoid a deer and clipping a tree and totaling my POS GM truck is the best thing that happened to me, luckily (or unluckily depending on how you look at it) I put a hefty payment down on it so I will have plenty of cash coming back to me to use as downpayment on something else...more than likely a used V8 Raptor.

KEEP DRINKING THAT GM KOOL AID THOUGH!

Wow! Tell us why your mad. I personally like my Sanoma Red metallic cool aid. I'm sorry you got black Liquorice flavor. I will say though I am sure you are correct in saying there is a vibration problem but to say all is asinine. I am neither foolish nor stupid and in reality am a very established mechanic and if I say I have no problems with my truck you can take my word for it.

I truly hope that's the case, and you may very well have a fairly trouble free truck...but I can guarantee to you that straight from a major NE GM service mgrs mouth, and TWO flown-in-from Detroit engineer's mouths, they all said verbatim- "all the 14/15 trucks vibrate to some degree, we (gm) are aware of it, there's no fix and it's an engineering/design flaw from an over zealous effort to stiffen the trucks up" they did pico gets on my truck and on brand new 15s- multiple- while mine had higher readings of vibrations the brand spanking new ones did too, and I hope yours doesn't have any that you can feel....yet....but mine got progressively worse as the truck "broke in"- they mounted my snow tires, Denali 22" wheels, 18" cheap LT wheels, rebalanced the drive shaft, replaced the driveshaft, replaced the front wheel hubs, re tightened the body mounts, - vibration never wavered.

I'm not making this stuff up, and I have not been on this forum lately because I was really "over" the truck so to speak and just fed up w/ the BS, but since I just found out I totaled it I figured I'd stop on the forum- and what do we see? More threads about vibrations and issues-

I'm not trying to bad mouth you or your truck and sorry I came off that way, but if you had the same experience or heard what I did straight form gm corporate, you would think differently. I will say they tried everything they could to fix it- but that just proves my point that the problem is inherent in the design- they literally can't fix it.

I'm getting a '15 RAM 2500 power wagon Laramie, a god dang real TRUCK- not a luxury laden vibrating tin can.

I could also go into explaining my good friend who has had TWO GM buy backs already, and they gave him a lease on a 3rd truck ('15 Denali) plus cash back to shut him up cuz he's so damn vocal about how bad his experiences were.

Sorry to hear about your problems Crush. But coming from a Calibration Technician/ Material Analyzer for an automotive company that supplies parts to every manufacture I can honestly tell you 1. Your wrong in so many ways and 2. My truck only has one issue and that being the POS SRA tires they slapped on it everything else with exception of the software update on my radio to better communicate with my droid works great and is a pleasure to drive.

Ok short back story I use to be a sales manager for a Chevy dealership fifteen years ago before I left the business. We had an awesome service manager and I found out he was now the service manager at a local Chevy dealership so I called him and asked if he had time to drive my GMC Sierra and tell me what he thinks and if it was all in my head. We drove my truck for about five miles he then pulled into Walmart's parking lot and said he sees all the issues in my truck often. He told me not all the 2014 and 2015's have these issues but he sees it as about 50/50 in the trucks that come through the service dept. His advice was as try to get GM to buy it back or get ride of it. He told me as of now they have no permanent fix for some of the problems my truck has. He said he personal believes since this truck has been out for two years GM has to know what the problem is. He believes that they are more than likely going to address the issues in the 2016. He thinks it would be to costly to fix all the 14 and 15's so they will fix the 16's that way it limits the amount of owners affected.

Try a tune. If it doesn't work and make you happy then sell the truck. I wouldn't worry about warranty since you might be selling it anyways. Yes I know you shouldn't have to tune a new truck, but if a few hundred dollars fixes a problem and keeps you from losing your ass on a trade in...well then the end result is worth it.

I'd call GM directly to complain about your dealer and your problems. I've read of other members on here getting partial tranny rebuilds and such. My seats have been fine since their first rebuild at the dealer. Make them do it again. What's wrong with your HomeLink? Mine works great. Make them replace it. And new leather on your steering wheel is cheaper than a new truck.

Don't completely blame GM if your dealer sucks. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

funny to see you backing up Gm, i tried to call and fight with them on my 2013 Tahoe eating a transmission and it left me stranded 8 hours away and they rebuilt the trans only to fail the day the driver brought it to me and said we will give you a rebuilt one and now the stupid thing clunks bad but they say its ok.... im just glad its documented that the second bad trand nearly killed my wife.

2013 tahoe the trans hits so hard when its cold you would think it had a bad u-joint or i neutral dropped it and lets not forget when it down shifts thats also a reminder to never buy Gm again!! Buy Toyota thats why me bought a Lexus for my wife to drive.

Tundra is the way to go. I will be honest and say that truck is built like a rock. Sure it may gulp gas and the interior and exterior are not the most breathtaking.

But dam do they scoot and built like a tank

Traded my 08 Double Cab 5.7 for a new Silverado. Great engine and trans in the Toyota, but after two rear axle bearing failures ($800.00 each to repair) and a frame with rusty welds everywhere, I got concerned and dumped it. Truck had 53000 easy miles on it and was garage kept. Toyota has it's troubles too. And Toyota doesn't seem to take the Tundra really seriously since it hasn't had a major update since 2007, and it needs one badly.

To the OP, sorry to hear of your troubles. We had a Grand Prix back in '99 that had multiple problems. Drive train was solid, the rest of the car was falling apart around it. Dumped it before lease was up and took a financial bath on it because I was sick of dealing with the problems. Took me 15 years to forgive them and buy another GM (my Sierra). So far so good on mine.

I haven't read through all of the vibration issue threads... is any one cab/bed/drive/engine configuration more susceptible to the vibes? I ask because my double cab / standard bed 4x4 w/5.3 seems fine. Rode in a friend's crew cab / short bed 2wd 5.3, and he has a vibe. Has it been documented if any are more prone to this than others?

A tune will make the transmission feel a lot better, as well as make the engine stronger. The rest of your issues have been seen before.

Can you save me the hour it will take me reading up and comparing tunes on here- which one, and what is recalibrated and tuned?

After installing the level and new tires did you re-calibrate the speedo? And really if you don't like the truck then sell it and switch ships like you want.

How do you recalibrate the speedo? I thought that even dealers could only program in OEM tire sizes? My 275/65-20s aren't an OEM size.

    • Your right on. 👍🏻
    • Seats matter a lot.  I would start there - good advise here.  I had a 2018 LT Colorado before my 2026 LT Silverado, and the seats are so much better in the new one it's not even a contest.  That was one thing I always hated about the Colorado and I owned two of them spanning 10 years - but I did it so I could park in the garage mainly.  Now I have a much larger property and a huge barn so I have plenty of parking options and a full size is more useful for maintaining the property and current hobbies as well.  I wasn't evenb thinking about the seats as part of the reason for the move to the Silverado, but after two back to back 700mile road trips I am sold on the LT seats w/ leather 100%.  The other LT features are also nice - one thing I really like is the power rear window on the back window by the bed.  And the lighting in the bed is also very nice to have - I doubt that comes on the lower models.  Power tailgate - also quite useful - it's a heavy slug!  What else - I could take or leave the screen - but heated seats and steering wheel and cruise control on the steering wheel is very useable - I would never want to live without that.  Even the colorados had that.
    • I think the ship has sailed on the fuel injection type - everything is getting direct now.  Does it help with mpg?  Not really and nobody buying a HD truck really cares anyway.  But that is what it is at this point.  Piston rings is something they may well adjust over time to get them right.
    • I don’t have detailed measurement data, but this past March we were hiking and camping in Death Valley and the Las Vegas area when this Spring’s heat wave hit with 105 plus temperatures and our 2021 L8T system kept our crew cab as cool as we wanted it (68F setting) with no trouble. Fan flows on auto once stabilized were fairly low. It seems like the OP’s system should be performing better.
    • Yes that's correct on the route to Durango - we just followed what google maps recommended.  That is quite the pass btw - very steep going back down.  I didn't even need manual mode - I just used cruise control and set the truck at 50 I think when it was a 45 posted speed and for the most part it just held it there by keeping it in the right gear - everyonce in awhile there is a sharper turn that I just braked for - but it was pretty smooth going down it on both sides.  Amazing views around there for sure - we had no real time to stop, were on the clock for a set-up time, but we did stop in some 2 horse town somewhere a couple hours oustide of Durango in the middle of nowhere for burgers.   And yes - lots up up and downs on the Durango trip but I think it's a big difference going 70 vs. going 80-83 with the aero in play with these big trucks.  Even the much smaller Colorado does reallt bad on gas going up over 70, I think I would have been lucky to get 18 on that trip in the Colorado honestly.  The full size is definately more comfy for a long road trip too, and the amount of gear we had would have meant two vehicles if I still had the Colorado.
