2014 Silverado Repurchase Program Details

Hi,

Just got GM to agree to repurchase my 2014 Silverado. Almost went through this back in spring, but now am going through with it for sure. Just wondering if anyone has any advice going into the process. Its not a lemon repurchase, but GM agreed to repurchase it.

What should I expect to pay on mileage? Is it just the mileage before my first visit for the problem?

What would happen if I got a vehicle that was less than the MSRP than the truck I bought? I.e. traded into a Colorado

Any general advice of things to watch out for that they might do that is shadey?

Thanks,

Phil

Hi,

Have a severe problem with the wax undercoating and rust. I've seen other issues with the wax on the 14's on the forum, mine is significantly worse. I made a deal with the district rep who promised the repair would fix it. Not long after the repair the wax came right off again and the rust is back.

This was not just welds or end pieces, it is generally the entire frame. It is not a lemon buyback, more of a dealer repurchase. Just wondering what to expect. Do I have any negotiation power?

Thanks,

Phil

they will probably charge you the federal rate for mileage which is 57.5 cents per mile.

Seems like a lot of hassle just for wax undercoating.

Did you investigate having them do a different type of undercoating? I'm with fondupot...if that is only issue (assuming rust isn't bad enough to become failure issue) and you like truck otherwise, it seems like overkill.

I got my truck through a buy back process from a Buick that was wonky to say the least. Its a long process, mine took 3 months. If your looking to get into another GM product you may get a better deal on the buyback.

GM will issue you a credit to use most likely. However if you get say 40k credit but buy a 35k vehicle you lose the 5k in credit. Also you most likely won't be eligible for manufacturer incentives, expect to pay full MSRP.

Hi,

I believe they said the only thing they would do is the GM service bulletin. The problem is that the rust penetrator did not stop the rust. It came right back through the new layer of rust.

I was told they wire brushed off the old wax and applied a rust penetrator.

My district rep told me hopefully two weeks. I'll have to see how big of a hit I'll take. I bought it as a 2014 leftover with the Z71 which I don't really need so I'm hoping that by getting one without the Z71 I won't take too big of a hit. I don't drive off of gravel often. Maybe a little bit during hunting season.

The rust was bad enough it was labeled as "corrosion" to the frame and not just surface rust on the repair. Not sure what I should do.

I am very disappointed. Not meaning to bash GM, I understand mistakes happen. This was the first new vehicle I have ever bought and my first truck and I was hoping to have it for 10 years.

Thanks for the replies.

The wax coating peeling off was what was wrong with my last GMC, and I had initiated a complaint with GM Customer Service.

By the time it all played out, with the reps " internal resources" the offer to buyback fell way short. Nobody wanted to do the repair , Two different Chevy service advisors that looked at it told me grinding and recoating what was there was a waste of time.

No way all those crevices will be re-coated effectively.

I ended up trading it in without any "assistance" from GM. In my case, the process was both frustrating, time consuming, and counter productive.

Hope it goes better for you.

I'm also in the process of an MSRP For MSRP replacement as well. We have 20,000 miles and they wanted us to pay full mileage at first. We asked if they could come down to one of the mileage points of when we brought in the truck for service (ours has the vibration problem and we've been trying to get it fixed since 9,000 miles) and they reduced the mileage to 13,500. Pick a vehicle up to your MSRP because I don't think they'll refund you any money. We need a full size truck for work so we have to choose in between the Sierras and Silverados. Good luck!

Hi,

Sorry I haven't posted for some time. I just wanted to complete the process in case anything fell through. GM (actually my dealer) traded me into a new truck with trade in assistance. I traded my 2014 Silverado Crew Cab 4x4 Z71 LT with 22,000 miles for a new 2015 Sierra Crew Cab 4x4 SLT for $2500 out the door.

I really like this new truck- it has a lot of features my old one didn't- heated/cooled seats, leather interior, lane departure, etc.

Best advice I could give anyone in a similar situation is form a good relationship with the store manager and the district representative and to negotiate as much as you can. First I was going to do a GM repurchase and spent quite some time with the district rep negotiating down the 22,000 miles. I ended up negotiating that to 2,500 miles (I had a considerable amount of time going between 2 dealers, talking on the phone etc. that was wasted which was one of my major points), but then the dealer wanted to go another route as they are short on trucks and if they did a repurchase with GM Trade Assistance he could keep my old truck on the lot and sell it themselves. GM gave me 8k trade assistance and the Sierra SLT currently has a large end of summer discount.

The negotiation process was the most complicated part. I was ready to leave GM forever and just take the repurchase cash. I even went to the Ford and Ram dealer in town and got quotes on new trucks (and I told the district rep this). I figured if GM wasn't going to help me out why should I remain a customer? In the end, I feel like I got a great deal and I hope others going through this same process can learn something from this post.

In the end, I couldn't be happier with GM and my new truck.
