2014 Sierra 5.3 TVS1900 Tune Help

Please be patient while I explain my weird situation. This may or may not be related to tuning.

I have '14 5.3 CCSB setup with a Magnuson TVS1900 along with ARH 1 3/4 LT headers.

This past month has been stressful, I just installed my SC last month, and two days after of having it back, it stalled out and had a very rough idle causing it to shut off. I took it to the shop and it turned out to be a loose Intake Air Temp Sensor.

It has ran good after, but the tube was very conservative, the added SC power was not too noticeable.

I luckily got referred from a friend to a very respectful tuner out of state. We been going back and forth with log runs and email tunes, but he made my Boosted truck actually feel like a boosted truck.

It ran great for three days then it started having problems, surging idle then a weird situation where it drives perfect under cruising ranges but refuses to go WOT, I'd make clouds of black smoke as long as I held down the throttle. Hooked up the computer and saw my intake air temp was incorrect causing massive flooding under WOT.

I assumed it was the sensor but I switched back to the conservative tune and it now drives perfect under WOT.

I'm at a lost right now, the new tuner states he has it the same truck with the same setup and same tune, that there is nothing wrong with it, & I trust him. He thinks the shop that installed possibly messed up somewhere and they tuned around the problem.

So do you think it's the sensor is just faulty, the installation or something in the tune?

Are you being tuned with EFILive or HPTuners? Are you running a wideband?

Both tuners run HPTuners, And I'm kicking myself in the ass for not having a wideband. That will be my next investment.

Assuming you are doing your tuning via datalogs, have you been able to log when the issue is happening, and then send it to your tuner? He should be able to help with diagnosis if it is a mechanical issue.

Definitely get a wideband on there!

I don't know your financial situation, but I will tell you without hesitation it would be well worth the money to invest in an Autocal and tune from Black Bear. Everything they run is boosted. I purchased my TVS1900 from them about a year and a half ago. The truck is a beast for a daily driver and any time I need a tweak or decide I want to mess with pulley size I am able to just email him a file. Then he shoots me some adjustments back or tells me I need to fix this or clean that.

If your tuner says he has the same tune in his that is a huge red flag. Find someone you can trust to do the tune perferably local.

I will second going with Black Bear. It seems the person tuning your truck really doesn't know what they are doing, that's obvious by claiming his truck has the exact same tune, that's should not be possible.

Suck it up, spend the money, BBP will tune your truck properly and you will not have to worry about having any issues.
