HMI Programming - what is needed?

That is for a different platform. The issue isn't just the software but the communications protocols used to talk with the hardware to access the software. So say you figure out a way to effectively communicate on the GMlan or the MOST bus, you then have to figure out how to decipher the information that is being passed and what is primary and what is tertiary.

 

The source code is readily available, but getting all the pieces to fit is the insurmountable task and if it were cost efficient people would of figured it out. As it stands, this is what I do for a living, but my time comes at a high premium to the point where it's more economical to depend on guys like Chris and MVI who can do it because even if I invest the time to figure all of it out I'd never get a return on my investment as I wouldn't be able to provide the level of service that they do at an economical price. If I thought the prices they were asking were unreasonable it might give me incentive to do something but I happen to think they are reasonable and am glad someone provides the service.

Can someone clarify what the MVI are?  Are those the personnel at the dealership or some other offsite programmers.

Honestly I seen videos on YouTube very few, but it seems all you need its a GM mdi which is expensive, and a laptop to reprogram the hmi’s I’m not sure that would get you video in motion but can definitely get you an upgrade

Does anyone know if an HMI needs to be unlocked or programmed if it’s new and never been attached to a VIN before? Or can I just instal it and it learns my VIN?
