K2XX 5.3L Pic Request - Flex Fuel sensor mounted on the frame

I saw the three holes in the frame but I couldn't see how it would plumb into the existing line without cutting it.

Can I request pics of your plumbing?

I'll get some pics tomorrow, I did mine with some fittings and stainless braided line

Yeah I saw no way to do it like you, so I plumbed it in at the first quick disconnect with some quick disconnect fittings and some braided line. I'll get some pics of it tomorrow.

What are the concerns with fuel flow switching the 6.2L to flex fuel? The fuel system might be the same between the 6.2L and 5.3L but both motors require different amounts of fuel especially at wot. Just curious if you researched the pump in the 6.2L and whether you verified it could flow enough fuel for ethanol? Can the injectors support the additional fuel? You could run a BAP but you may sacrifice pump longevity or require power wire upgrade.

FFV fuel systems have different components (pump, seals, regulator, etc) that are capable of withstanding the corrosive nature of E85.

Gasoline vehicles that are not specifically designed for E85 don't have the upgraded components due to cost.

If you run E85 in a system not designed for it, you will have problems eventually.

Ah, thanks! I'm gonna ask a buddy to snap a pic of his 14 Sierra, if he's in town.

No problem at all. I went underneath it right after work and realized that whole area was caked with some Georgia clay from my last hunt. So I had to go and power wash that area. I didn't realize how good that clay sticks to the frame coating.

If the rest of the fuel system isn't flex-fuel, you are going to have problems.

True but the fuel systems on K2XX are made with E85 in mind. A few years back when GM was talking about the new engines for the K2XX the 6.2L was listed as E85 capable. Supposedly this changed because the 6.2L on E85 would of then had competing numbers with the Corvette's 6.2L. Not sure how true that last statement is but it does make some sense.

Then sensor is actually spliced into the fuel line using two flexible fuel line sections and couplers on each end.

Look forward to seeing your setup.

Not many, just have to get a tune and tweak some of the settings such as boosting fuel pressure. There are several members who have already one this and one member has actually done it on his 6.2L 1500 and C7 corvette.

You'll be good to go. I did this mod as well, still working on the tuning aspect of it with BBP but plumbing the sensor in and hooking it up is a piece of cake! As far as the rest of the fuel system thing.....it's all identical between FFV or non FFV so no worries there!

I can't believe this would be the case where they would put the extra expense into the parts but not rate it for FFV.

I work for a tier-1 fuel system supplier, so I am aware of the differences in content and cost.

The 'bean-counters' would never allow that, it would add up to millions of dollars across that high of volume of vehicles.

Here are two pictures for your reference. Both pictures were taken while i was underneath the truck from the passanger side. So the parts your looking at are located on the drivers side, on the inside of the frame. If you look about 1 to 2 o'clock of the plug you'll see three holes on the frame. That is where the sensor mounts.

It's clay, if you're referring to that? See his post above [emoji4]

OH...well...perfectly acceptable...glad you got 'er dirty then! :)

I kinda wondered, and didn't see previous mention (sorry) :)

Did you get GMC photo? I happen to have a 2015 5.3L flex fuel

I am interested in this, I would like the capability to run E85, even if I don't end up doing so. Don't know much about E85 in itself, but I have read lots of threads with guys getting custom E85 tunes and impressive HP numbers. What causes this? What are the downfalls?

There must be some issues that keep everyone and their mother from tuning to E85

The pictures I took also highlight a downfall of the frame coating, dirt sticks! I took those pictures after I had power washed that area. I could not get any of that dirt to come off except for the big clumps. Regarding the pictures, I have not received any photo's yet. I have however seen what the setup looks like on the V6 models but want to make sure its the same for the V8. Would you be able to take a couple pictures and post them?

The downfalls to E85 is that it decrease your gas mileage by about 30% but it is also 105-110 octane fuel as well. So if you are worried about it from a financial perspective you want to be saving 30% or more when you fill up using E85 compared to traditional E10. Personally I am looking to try out E85 because it's just something else relatively inexpensive I can do to tinker with my truck. I am also interested in see how much more HP and TQ I can achieve on it as well. Another upside to running E85 is burns very clean compared to E10. Currently completely stock I have gotten 350rwhp/380rwtq with the air box slightly cracked. But by doing this I will also be running custom tunes which a lot of people are interested in doing, which is completely understandable in my opinion.
