Chimes

Hello,

I was wondering if any one knows how to disable the chimes in a 2003 Suburban.. I have noticed that the chimes are routed through the stereo speakers, and the volume can be adjusted through the radio. I am guessing there is a control lead from the ign sense/door sense/ light sense going into the radio unit. Does any one have the pinout of the radio or schematic diagrams? The GM dealership wont help, and I dont want to start cutting wires at random. Any help would be greatly apprecitated. THANKS!

I hear you loud and clear...about as loud as that stupid door ajar chime. Yeah, you can adjust how loud it is, but the "normal" setting is too loud too!

I hate it that you can't turn the key back to accessory and listen to the radio with the driver's door open without the chime blaring. Wouldn't make more sense to NOT chime with the key turned back......the opposite of start? Yet turning the key forward will stop the chime. duh! Who cares if the door is ajar with the key in the accessory position!

That's just like how my mom's 93 Century wagon would lock the doors when put in drive, but not unlock when you put it back in park or shut it off. My brother's 94 Skylark wouldn't lock when put in drive(if I remember right), but would unlock when put in park. And then of course my 99 Rado locks at 20 and wouldn't unlock in park...until R&D.

I have never met anyone who likes the automatic door locking/unlocking features. The '03 Burban also turns on the lights when it gets dark out.. That is really irritating as once they engine.turn on you cant turn them off unless you shut off the

All I have to ask is WHY?? I prefer manual control of the vehicle, thats why i'm on a mission to get rid of the door/light chimes. Dont need a constant reminder that the lights are on and the engine is off, I am very well aware of it.

Weird that was supposed to be;

That is really irritating as once they turn on you cant turn them off unless you shut off the engine.

you can override the automatic headlamps (also turns of DRLs) by pressing the dome override button 4 times within 15 secs. The door chime will beep once, and the automatic headlamps will be off. Only problem is that you will have to do that every time you start the car because it will "forget" everytime you shut off the engine.

I also find this annoying!

I removed the BCM under the dash and was going to un-solder the dinger. I was not sure if it would effect any other circuit so I plugged the hole with RTV gasket sealer then put tape over the hole and around the base of the dinger.

It helped a lot but I can still hear it!

Unique solution, unfortunately the chime is produced by the speakers in the '03s. very annoying.....and loud

Nothing to do with the chimes. The dome overide trick is something GM came up with for 2000 and on trucks. I wish my 99 gave me that option at least. It'll take the auto-headlights off. Others have also monkeyed around with the light sensor on the dash and solved the problem permanently that way.

You can break off the speaker very easily. If you look on the backside there is a small hole with a plastic clip which helps hold the speaker in. I just took a small punch and put it in the hole and broke that piece off. Then all you have to do is rock the speaker back in forth a few times to break the solder connections. Then no more beeps. Nothing else is affected. I broke mine off about a year ago.

Hey Silverado - I tried this on my 2001 GMC and it didn't work. The truck was running with the lights on. I find that "no headlights off in the dark" option to be a pita, especially when I'm camping and have to run the truck at night to charge up the battery. I hate blinding the folks on the site across the street. Is there a trick to it?

If your just park than you can put the parking brake on and that will not turn the lights on. Just turn the key to off push in on the parking brake turn key on and there should be no lights. But the dome override should work on your truck.

At least that is one area of the '03s that they fixed. Just flip the light accessory knob to the left to turn off all lights in the dark. Everything. NADA.

But, the door-ajar chime in accessory position is still there. NICE.

Lucky 03 Owners - they got a real headlight switch! Thanks Silverado, I'll try the parking brake thing tonight. I did press the dome override 4x in 15 secs, no chime, lights stayed on. Oh well, at least I have another option. I wonder, if you disconnect the sensor on the dash, would the off position on the headlamp switch morph into a real off switch? Anyone?
