CEL Thrown today, truck doesnt even have 5000 miles yet

So today on the way home, noticed that the engine light came on. There was nothing noticeable with the truck while driving, wasn't speeding since it was a side road and speed limit was like 40 I think. Either way, I took it easy til I got home and turned off the radio to listen to the way the truck was handling..

 

Nothing stood out. I got home and got my code reader out and it showed the following:

 

N/A - 01/04

N/A - 02/04

C0700 P - 03/04

N/A - 04/04

 

I will be taking to the dealership ASAP, but in the mean time id like to know what I'm dealing with to insure its nothing that I have done or to make sure I don't drive it if I shouldn't be driving it.

 

Any help would be great. The only information I could find was for a P0700 which is for the TCM module, but this shows up on the reader as a C0700 P.

Typically, if it is a serious issue, the truck will go into a limp mode. Hopefully it is something simple.

You might want a new code reader. None of those numbers mean anything except maybe if you want to read co700p as p0700. P0700 is just a code in the pcm that notifies you that there is a code in the tcm.

I mean I'm still taking the truck in tomorrow, but would like to have something that will work.

As already stated, more serious issues will be more likely to put the truck into limp mode, and a -flashing- CEL is a "pull over and turn the truck off now" kind of warning.

This is incorrect, a flashing CEL means the ECM has detected a misfire event. Doesn't mean you have to pull over or stop.

Well this morning the light was off after leaving for work and about half way into work it came on again, ive called the dealership and hopefully drop it off after work if I can make it there before they close. I took pics of the dash as I drove around 30mph, and at a stop to show the gauges.

 

The only thing that I can remember is that it started yesterday after I filled up on gas, I had just over 1/2 tank and wanted to top it off before the work week. Been using the middle octane gas(89) I think it is, once it stopped, I put the cap back on and noticed the light before getting home.

 

I checked the cap this morning before leaving and it was on tight.

 

It may not be related, but only thing that was done prior to the light..

Also, any way that needing the scheduled oil change would throw the CEL?

 

Oil is at 39% or 36% and is due for a change.

Before I drop it off to the dealership, could my CAI have caused this issue? Should I remove and reinstall the factory before dropping off?

I don't want to be told that something I did caused this, but then again, I have had the CAI installed now for well over a month, maybe little longer and this just started.

 

Also something to consider, I had my exhaust done about month ago, had flowmaster installed and the resonator removed.

Then GM is bucking the standard... For as long as there have been CELs, that's the way that I've always been taught to interpret them. CEL -ON- = something needs attention, check it out. CEL -FLASHING- = serious issue, shut the motor off ASAP.

I'm betting that batch of 89 might be your culprit. Does your truck have a black or yellow gas cap?

black cap, not flex fuel.

And found the problem, the MAF lost the 2 screws holding it into the air tube on my CAI, so until I get home, we placed it back in and zip tied it into place to insure I get home and can go to the store and get some new ones.. plus some Loctite to help prevent this again.

Good to hear that the problem was induced by the mods that were done, and that you found the issue.

 

 

P0171 and P0174 are 'fuel too lean bank 1' and 'fuel too lean bank 2'

Yea, sucks that it happened, bought 2 new screws lastnight, put a little dab of Loctite on them and secured them, drove the truck this morning and no more light. But I have extra screws on hand now that I know that could be a area to watch as I put miles on the truck.
