2016 max tow vs z71

I've been trying to figure this out on GM's website it appears that now with the 8 speed available 342 gears on max tow are the only option and z71 show 342 as an option are there any difference other than appearance. I am only interested in a 2016 with 6.2.

Z71 LTZ vs. LTZ will be obviously the Z71 suspension, the monochromatic front and color matched rear bumper, wheels, hill descent control and Z71 stuff inside.

 

6.2/8 speed come with 3.23 standard for 4x4 trucks. Max trailer gets you the 3.42 gears. Max trailer is LTZ only. Z71 LTZ and 6.2/8 speed is only available with 3.23 gears.

Thanks for clearing that up I sure do like the z71 looks better but will be pulling a boat alot and a 50 horse tractor on a car hauler trailer some now decisions..decisions.

I can get the built in trailer brake control on the z71 with just the trailering package though correct? Or is max tow required for that.

You're not missing anything with the Z71 package

Assuming the '16s are the same as the '15s, you can get everything you need for trailering in a Z71 package.

 

The max tow package however includes all trailer equipment, plus a beefier rear end (had higher gears at 3.73 for '15, but not with '16s) and other suspension upgrades that allows for higher payloads. You also get the towing mirrors. You cannot get a Z71 package AND max tow however.

you can get the trailer braking with Z71 is what he means, also the Z71 gets you hill descent control which is nice for towing. Where Max Tow can't get Hill Descent

Yep. Again, assuming the '16s are the same as the '15s, the Z71 can be had with the 3.42 gears, trailer brake, trans cooler, etc.

With the 8 speed and 6.2 it is not. 3.23 for Z71 and 6.2/8 speed. 5.3 with either the 6 speed or 8 speed runs the 3.42 but 8 speed/5.3 combo is on major constraint already.

I ordered the max trailering package because I tow more than I go off road. I also wanted the tow mirrors and couldn't figure out how to get them otherwise.

 

I couldn't find good info but I thought the max tow also had a better radiator.

I just wish we could order a truck line by line with what I want instead of being packaged with other bullshit I don't want or need. For instance a RCSB with a 6.2 and 3.73 gears!
