Greetings Gang,

I'll be open and honest.... I currently own a 2007 tacoma that's been a great truck since new.

I'm in the market for a new truck come spring time. I've been drooling over the 2016's tacoma for months before they came out. Now that they've come out - I'm rather disappointed that I can't get a Limited (loaded w/leather) in an Access cab configuration. There are so many options & configurations you can't get....and I'm very disappointed. So....I'm shopping around.

I'm just beginning to research and learn so I'm fully equipped with information when its time for a test drive.

Love the looks of the Canyon (versus Colorado). My husband thinks I should shoot for the Denali.

Other than that...I'm an old fart who's worked around machinery for 20 years. I do my own oil changes/etc. My husband and I run 3-4 miles on a regular basis. We love the outdoors. Married for 20 years.... no children.

Happy to be here and read/cabitz. Anything Tacoma related that you've ever wanted to know....just ask.

I'm not here to stir the pot, just to read and share. From one automotive enthusiast to another.....

THANKS ahead of time for the help !

Since you are a Toyota fan, why not look at the Tundra if you are looking to get into a new pickup? There are a lot of guys I work with that have newer Tundras and seem to love them. What seems to be the problem that you can not get a new Tacoma equipped the way you want? You should be able to order the truck you want and need and Toyota should build it. They don't seem to have any issues with building and selling trucks to terrorists in the middle east so they should not have an issue building one for an American citizen.

With the price difference GM has between the small pickups and the full size, it's best to just buy a Silverado/Sierra rather than going with the Canyon/Colorado IMO. The full size just has more to offer and they really don't cost much more than the midsized depending on how they are equipped.

I'm really not in the market for a fullsize. I owned a 2003 Dodge Ram for 3 years. It was a dream to tow/haul with but driving it around town on a daily basis in & around tight places was a headache. I hated it and was glad to get into a smaller truck. So even the Tundra is off the table.

The tacoma 'Limited' model is the loaded version (with leather) but you can only get it in a Double cab short bed. You can't get it in an Access Cab. You can't get leather seats in anything else but the limited. You can't *Option Up* to make something into a Limited because the stuff just isn't available. It's ridiculous. You can get heated seats as an option.......but, non of the trucks have POWER seats!!!

Believe me, I don't understand it..... and I don't wanna install this stuff myself. I spent the last 8 years installing stuff on my current truck. It's time to spend more time driving it, then moddin' it. Granted, I always do something to it...but, you know what I mean. lol

Welcome aboard, i too love the look of the new tacomas. Also like the canyons as well. You cant go wrong with either one.

Also from lancaster, Marietta area here.

That really seems strange that Toyota doesn't offer power seats. After looking at their website and building trucks, they do seem to be really weird on how they are equipped and the very limited options you have to build. I didn't realize that until I just attempted to build a Tundra and Tacoma to my liking, they were both a no go.

Whatever you do, don't settle for less than what you want or you will never be happy with the truck. Doesn't really matter who builds it, just buy what you really want so you don't regret your purchase every time you drive the truck....Good luck!

Welcome aboard

Toyota really limits their options. To get a dark interior on our van we would have had to went to the highest trim level. Went with with an LE no mower seats and white cloth which I hate but was the only option. Also couldn't get fog lights in this trim level. To go up a trim was like 3-4K which was crazy

Took a trip to one of our local dealers (somewhat local) - got to see the Copper Red Metallic and test drive one.

I couldn't romp around with it like I would've liked to. The back country roads of which I drove on, were drifted and snow covered. It was just a bit intimidating driving a $40K vehicle on the snow - not being familiar with the vehicle or how it handles in the snow. Aside from having it in 4WD...I got a little daring. I put it in AUTO 4WD and hit the gas a bit expecting it to fish tail ...It was surprisingly impressive!!! Pulled away no fish tailing at all.

My only gripe, is the location of the 4WD switch and there's no indication on the dash that tells you you're in 4WD. With the way I sit and the steering wheel position - I couldn't see the 4WD switch at all. I'll have to adjust things a bit and see what I can do.

We all sat down and talked numbers. We were given a price and an offer on the trade. We walked out with the information in hand and are shopping to different dealers.

The truck I want....SLT Crew cab short box, Copper Red Metallic - black leather interior, factory spray on Berliner... It will probably have to be ordered.

We have another appointment with a different dealership more locally - to see what they'll offer us.

The first dealership has a larger allotment and have told us they can get an 'ordered' truck in 4-8 weeks. The other dealer - I was told 16-18 weeks. Wow...

So, we'll see what happens. Getting excited..... As it's been a very long time since I've had a new vehicle and certainly never had all the goodies that the SLT has!!

Thanks Gang!!

Good news & bad news... we found a truck fairly locally but weren't able to 'secure' it at the time (it was after 6pm). We put a downpayment on the/a truck that night and were hoping they could do a dealer swap. Bad news...the dealership wasn't willing to part with the truck. So now, we're trying to locate another one. This is frustrating..... The truck we want is listed on the other dealers website as if its for sale... and its been on their lot for 37 days. I don't understand 'why' they won't make it available? It's a SALE - and I'd think GMC would want to push sales regardless if a dealership isn't willing to trade.

If I check that 'other' dealerships website in ONE week.....and that truck is still listed in their inventory, I'm gonna be pissed. WHY??? I don't understand their 'allocations' and/or why it wouldn't be available to us. ??

Anyone have any thoughts?? This is a CASH sale...paid in full arrangement. So the 'revenue' would be instant.

GMC is not GMC as far as dealers go. Each dealership is an independently owned and operated franchise. The dealer with the desirable pickup would not get credit for a sale if they dealer trade, and may potentially get a less desirable, harder to sell vehicle in exchange.

If you go directly to the dealer with the pickup you want, assuming it is still available, I guarantee you could take it home.

As for the cash sale argument, that will actually hurt you in the car buying game. Dealers make surprisingly little per new vehicle transaction; a much larger chunk of the front end's profit comes from the F&I (finance and insurance) department. They'll make far less off you without financing.

If direct purchase isn't an option, try working the trade through a different dealership. Dealer to dealer relations often make or break a deal. Some dealers outright refuse to do business with other (often rival) dealers. Of course, dealers are not likely to tell you this outright as doing so would risk losing a potential customer.

Stick with it and try not to get too frustrated. You can get the pickup you want, but you may have to be persistent.

Welcome to GMT. Can't you just go to the dealership that has the truck?

It's tempting, but we already have a down payment with our local dealer.

I can understand if the vehicle is sold or 'spoken' for - but it just doesn't make sense if that same truck sits on that 'other' dealers lot for weeks AFTER we put a deposit down..... Why would a customer have to wait especially if there's a truck out there waiting to be sold. Just seems like the dealerships are being a little greedy to hold onto them.

There should be some incentive to both dealerships to move these trucks and not hold onto them.

Sorry...I've gotta be patient yet....as you said, persistent without being a PITA!! I'm just excited to get one!!
