Adjusting Torsion Keys

Recommended Posts

Hey guys

Just got done tightening up my keys a little and raised the truck up about an inch and a half. So far am very happy with how it looks and didn't seem to make the truck ride any worse.

Now I have a question. I adjusted my passenger side 7 turns clockwise and noticed it raised passenger side up 1 1/2 inches and raise the driver side up about an inch. I only needed to go 2 turns total on the passenger side to get the truck height level on both sides. Is this okay or should I make sure to adjust them the same number of turns? Also how important is it to get an alignment?

Sorry for the newb question, I haven't done this before.

Thanks!

I would get the alignment checked, as changing the angles by lifting will modify your toe adjustment.

Make sense. I will get it looked at later this week!

So far love having it raised, actually has the height of a real truck now

You should do equal turns on both key adjusters, since your passenger side key is turned in more that bar is doing most of the work (pre load) you might find while going down the road and you hit a dip in the road the drivers side might dip down more then the passenger side because the divers side bar doesn't have as much preload then the other bar. Or look at it this way the passenger "T" bar is stiffer then the drivers side "T" bar.

Good to know! I will tighten up my passenger side a little more and measure. I just didn't want half my truck real raised and the other half an inch or two lower.

So far am loving the raised front. Going down the road isn't nearly as rough as people made it seem.

One side of your truck has more weight on it, therefore the number of turns will be different. The alignment is absolutely necessary. Enjoy!

Agreed.. I have had multiple GMT800's with keys that would have to be adjusted at different heights to get it level

Went to get my alignment done and was told my inner and outer tie Rods are all worn and idler pitman arm on passenger side is worn and an alignment is a waste of money until I fix those things.

Yay. More money.....
