About to install AMP Powersteps....any tips or pointers?

I installed my steps myself and it was a breeze (I used the plug and play kit as well). Just follow the instructions step by step and you should be golden.

All in all i think the install time was about 3 hours give or take (includes assembly time for the motor and arms). Granted, i did cut the led lights that came with the steps off and installed a set of LED light bars instead (They're brighter) so that took a little extra time.

You're going to love them by the way. They're one of the best purchases for my truck i have made.

Tim one more quick question. I notice on the install sheet I've gotta drill a hole in the floor board on the driver side to connect to the obd2 port. Have you had any problems with water getting in or anything? I plan on sealing the grommet with some waterproof silicone as well. Any I'm assuming once you wire to the battery, you just drop the passenger side wires down to the step from the engine bay and same for driver side correct? Got my PnP harness last night so going to try to tackle the steps tonight.

No leaking. I sealed mine up with silicone, but it was a small hole anyway. Yes, the wires drop down from the engine bay.

Don't drill a new hole, use the grommet that is there already. Push the two wires thru it and seal with silicone.

Run the wires first, that way you only get under 1 side of the truck once.

Install boards, wire it up then moved to the other side.

Doing it this way will save you a lot of time. Makes it about an hours job.

My first set took my 11 year old Son and I about 2 hours, from taking boards out of box to complete install and burning of the box.

Second set took less than an hour by myself.

Don't over think it, its just 4 mounting bolts to the body and then 4 bolts to the boards on each side.

Just thought I'd share. I got in the mail and installed the same lights that Tim did for his steps and his description and pictures were right on the money. Great output and no interference with the steps. Thanks Tim!

And for those wondering, there is a perfect spot front and rear in between these 2 filler plugs...perfect fit!

I mounted mine in the same place. Way better than the lights the steps come with.

I just ordered a set of Plug n play steps for my truck. I have been looking for directions but can only find the hard wired ones. Do you still need to remove the door panels with the pnp kit? Thanks

No. Your kit should come with the correct instructions. If not go to Amps website and download the PnP manual. Very straight forward.

Thanks a lot man after my post I was able to find the addendum for the PNP steps. That cuts down on a huge amount of work! I also ordered the led lights off eBay that were referenced on this thread. One more question.

You'll really like the LED lights. They are much better than the ones the come with the steps. The pictures justify the output on the lights. Pass through is not necessary unless you have a tuner or some accessory that needs to be plugged in all the time.

Agree with Kerrslight. I added the pass through cable because I was using a Range AFM delete. You can try it without it first and add it later if you find that you need or want it. That's what I did...
