Warranty work for a factory issue but have custom tune. (replacement t

Ok... Im looking for a little feedback on this situation.

I have the TSB issue Pi1450 which requires a replacement transmission and I'm tuned. I'm a pay to play guy but with it being a known factory fabrication issue I'm considering taking to the dealer and seeing if I can get it fixed under warranty. Has anybody dealt with a situation like this yet and what would be pros/cons to this?

I'm almost positive they are gonna tell me to kick rocks and if that happens I'll just have tranny built assuming there are any upgraded parts even available. If anybody knows of a shop building these 8L90's, I would love to get their info.

Oh, dealer is aware that my truck is tuned but they haven't been in this situation yet so they aren't sure what to expect either. They just said "put factory tune back in and let's roll the dice".

Well if they know it is tuned already what is the harm/risk in seeing if they will replace it? Go for it if you are already prepared to be told no.

That's pretty much my thinking exactly and this dealer knows me, they even send people my way so that's never been an issue having to hide stuff from them. They also know I don't take stuff in for warranty work that I tear up, never have. It's just irritating thinking that GM Engineers may deny me for something that's a known issue on their end even though my dealer will go to bat for me.

I'm scheduled to drop it off with them Monday morning but I'm not 100% sure I'm gonna follow through yet, kinda waiting to hear what you guys think.

Oh ok you aren't concerned with the dealer approving it but a regional gm warranty rep, right? If there is a tsb it shouldn't even involve a regional rep. I thought the dealer would just change or fix it and submit paperwork to gm for it.

It's changed, on certain items (like tranny replacement) dealer is instructed to not do any work until they submit certain information to PQC (Product Quality Center)and part of this information they look at is the factory calibration verification numbers/history.

Dealer literally carries no weight anymore. Gone are the days of the dealer slipping blown engines past GM which overall is a good thing but I'm hoping situations like this are actually investigated and not simply denied.

Can you provide more info about the TSB? What is the criteria for vehicles affected by this TSB determined by; build date, symptoms, etc.? I'm trying to figure out how a tune will determine if your truck is eligible for the TSB repair. If its a fabrication/mechanical issue with certain trannys in a selected build date range, I don't see how your tune will have anything to do with the repair. If I was a symptom brought on by the tune, then I can see you having problems.

Man good luck! If it's a known issue then it really shouldn't matter. Definitely in a sticky situation. Keep us posted!

Well didn't know that. I would bet they try telling you no replacement due to the tune. Gm takes any chance they think they have to save money.

#PI1450: Snap, Pop, Click, Tick or Clunk Noise on a Launch - (Mar 27, 2015)

Subject: Snap, Pop, Click, Tick or Clunk Noise on a Launch

Models: 2015 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV

2015 Chevrolet Silverado

2015 GMC Sierra, Yukon, Yukon XL

Equipped with 8L90 Automatic Transmission (RPO M5U)

Built Prior to December 1, 2014

Attention: This PI also applies to any of the above models that may be Export vehicles.

Condition/Concern

Some customers may comment on a snap, pop, click, tick or clunk noise, typically on a launch after a stop.

This condition may be caused by clearance between C1 and C2 clutch reaction plates (steels) and the case.

Recommendation/Instructions

This procedure will load the plates in one direction and then the other direction to maximize the motion of the plates. The impact of the plates on the case is what results in snap or the clunk noise. The C1 and C2 clutch reaction plates (steels) were revised in transmissions built November 5, 2014 or later to prevent this noise condition.

Procedure to test for snap or clunk:

Warm the transmission to at least 40°C (104°F) sump temperature.

Place the transfer case in 2WD.

Drive the vehicle in Drive, up to about 64 km/h (40 mph).

Release throttle and bring the vehicle to a stop.

Launch the vehicle and listen for a snap or clunk.

Repeat several times to confirm the snap or clunk noise.

If this test confirms the noise, the transmission should be replaced. Refer to the latest version of PIP5200 and contact PQC for a replacement transmission.

Important: If the transmission is replaced, the transmission solenoid characterization reprogramming must be performed using the TIS2Web Service Programming System (SPS). Refer to Solenoid Valve Characterization Reprogramming in eSI. The Transmission Service Fast Learn Procedure must also be completed. If these procedures are not completed, shift quality may be less than optimal.

Here u go...

Okay. I understand now. Yeah, you might have an issue.

If I drop it off Monday I will definitely give the play by play. I know there are a couple other tuned 2015 6.2's on this board that fall in the same build date range as mine and should be experiencing the same issues. I wish they would at least PM me and share their experience if they had to deal with this yet.

As long as your dealer dosent mention it to gm you should be fine they wont ask to check tune for a replacement for a PI only if it came in blown to bits.

Mine does this, I'm tuned as well.

Well I'm going through with it, I figured if anything the guys like you with same issue will know what to expect. I have an awesome dealer though and that could make a difference.

I really appreciate the input so far from everybody. Keep it coming!
