Belt squealing and have done the following.

Replaced belt but after a couple months it is squealing again.

Replaced the tensioner, idler pulleys, alternator, water pump, power steering pump one at a time and it still squeals.

Replaced the belt with a Gates belt again and again after a couple months it is squealing.

I am out of ideas....

HELP......

I will check that again.

The only one that worries me is the power steering pulley because it is pressed on after the pump is installed.

The power steering pump was the first thing I replaced because it was whining. It felt like the pulley went on ok bu that will be my first check.

NO LUCK,,,

All the pulleys are aligned. I have no ideas.

The only pulley that hasn't been replaced is the crank pulley.

confirm belt part number is correct. Had this problem with my sons blazer......found multiple belts for his blazer.

or bad bearing in one or more of the new pulleys, had this happen too

Only two possible belts for the 5.3-V8...

About 1/2" longer for the 145amp alternator then the 105 amp alternator.

(I have the 105 amp alternator)

Bearing are smooth runing on all of the pullyes.

I have noticed that the crank pulley is shiny on the tips of the ridges but not in the valleys. Also that there are shiny spots in the valleys of the belt.

I am almost certain that the crank pulley is the one making the noise.

Engine noise can be a choir to find. I usually use a cardboard tube from gift wrapping paper. They are long enough to reach in the engine bay and keep you from putting your hands and head into moving parts. Just move the tube around until you hear where the sound is coming from. Give it a try and good luck.

Sure it's not your A/C belt?

The easiest way to be sure is to pop the main serpentine belt off, then start the vehicle up for 20 seconds or so, while you check. It can run safely for short periods without the main serpentine in place.

I had ruled out the air conditioning belt long before I started replacing parts.

I did exactly what you suggested (no squeal) and also removed the AC belt (main belt still squealed)

I just replaced the harmonic balancer, the only thing left that the belt is in contact with.

I'll be keeping an eye/ear on it for any sign of the squealing returning.

I'll let you know how it goes.

The belt is squealing again.

There is nothing that the belt turns that has not been replaced.

Power steering pump

Water pump

Tensioning arm and pulley

Alternator

Idler pulley

Harmonic balancer

Several new belts

WHAT COULD IT BE??????

I know you said you changed the tensioner but do you know it's holding tension properly? On my last truck the tensioner started not holding tension and when I replaced it, I found the "new" tensioner was also not holding tension properly either. So I returned it and went to another place to get a different tensioner. Once I put the second "new" one on, my belt finally quit squeaking/squealing.

True-

I think there is a spec and a test for ensuring the belt has enough tension.

When I put a wrench on the tensioning arm and add tension it squeals louder...

I THINK I FOUND THE PROBLEM!!!

The first reply to this problem was about pulley alignment.

My first check was the power steering pulley, my thinking it didn't get pressed on all the way. I put the tool on it to press it on further and it didn't go on any further so I moved on to other things.

WELL, I went back to the power steering pulley today. I decided to pull it off and found a burr on the shaft that was preventing it from being pressed on all the way. I cleaned up the shaft and the pulley pressed on about 3/16 farther.

Now there is no squeal with a belt that was squealing like crazy.

I think this is the solution. Time will tell.

Thanks for all the support/replies during this frustrating time.

So you didn't actually check the alignment of the pulley faces with a straight edge, etc,,, as was suggested early on?

Glad you got it fixed
