How To Achieve The Very Best Fuel Economy??????

This is too simple.....put the truck on a trailer and have a friend with a Ford pull it around. He will get crappy mileage and you can rub it in his face.

Being serious, I don't understand why people, especially the younger generations expect a full size truck to get great fuel mileage. Trucks are made to pull stuff and haul stuff. The 2015 is the first full size truck that I have ever owned that got over 20 MPG. That is on the highway, not loaded. Most of my trucks for the past 35 years have gotten an average of about 10 mpg, and that includes the 2001 GMC. It only gets about 14 on the highway, unloaded, with a tailwind, at 60mph.

Thinking on it, the only truck that I ever had that got the kind of mileage that this truck gets was an 87 Nissan, 4 banger with a 5 speed, no power nothing, but did have AC.

I knows a truck is going to be hard on gas, I simply don't know what engine and rear combination be the best for myself. I don't want a truck that has a towing rear end in it, because all I'm going to tow is 2 atv's...I think a 5.3 and the 3:08 be the best.

As others have said, dont buy a truck if you want good MPG.

If you are looking at 2014/2015 a 5.3 will come with a 6 speed with 3.42 rear end would be best for all around performance, mileage. 3.08's would be a DOG.

If you are looking at 2016, a 5.3 will come with the 8 speed (on SLT and up) and comes with the 3.42 rear again. Which I think is the only option.

Well okay let's get back to focus here. Don't level the stupid thing and put heavier tires on it... that totally negates the point of the thread... may as well just jump right to 6" of lift and 35's lol... If your primary driving is highway you may benefit from 3.08 gears... if your primary is more city 3.42 will get you a better mix. The "towing" gear would be 3.73 so just don't look at trucks with max tow. You either care about mileage with a truck or you don't. .. most of us don't.
