This is awesome I'm going to ha e to try it today. So question... If this is so much better then why doesn't GM just factory have their trucks tuned to something similar if its increasing torque, decreasing wear, and increasing mpg?

Does anyone have any solid numbers on mpg?

I tried this for a little today in my '15 6.2, impressive. It really does make a big difference. The regular mode seems very lazy and the tow/haul mode makes the truck feel downright sporty.

I agree. I see a lot of T/H mode use in my future.

I tried T/H mode today in auto/4wd mode and was evan more impressed. For some reason, the drivetrain vibration in auto mode was FAR less pronounced while in tow mode.

It almost is as if the truck was designed to run in auto/4wd and tow mode and all other combinations were afterthoughts. Unfortunately, it appears that the truck is not designed to run full time in auto/4wd mode, otherwise, my truck would always be in tow/auto mode.

What did you notice mpg wise?

It's really hard to gauge. I do a ton of stop and go driving (one light to the next) and some highway driving. I have about 1400 miles on the truck with a lifetime average of 15 mpg. Trip A was started when I started Tow mode and only has 46 miles on it with and average of 16 mpg. However, watching the mpg on the DIC, I think I should be able to get substantially better milage with Tow enabled.

Hm Im going to give it a shot tomorrow and see what happens. Id guess that it would actually decrease gas milage because its keeping shift points higher and therefor rpm higher plus sporty=more responsive=more torque=more gas but i could completely be wrong. Has anyone else noticed any increase in mpg at all?

I am noticing a nice increase in mpg using tow/haul. I starting doing this on Friday and noticed that the truck was running higher mpg numbers in the DIC when monitoring the Average MPG screen. I gassed up today and did some running around. My driving was a mix of stop and go around town and some 50 mph straight stretches. Trip A (14 miles so far) is reading 21.6 mpg!

I noticed that the truck WILL stay in V4 mode much longer in tow/haul mode with gentle application of throttle. Still, it is possible to actually keep in V4 and increase my speed in tow/haul. With the truck in Drive, I was lucky to keep V4 when going downhill.

I can't wait to see what mpg I get between now and my next gas up.

I don't know about this generation but I remember someone posting drag times showing that tow/haul, at least for them, actually made the truck slower in the 1/4. I'd pull it up but this was quite a while ago.

Looks like great increase! Heres the next question: Is there any negative effect of leaving the tow haul on?

Mechanically not really, wallet wise, maybe.

Why would it have an effect wallet wise?

MPG could suffer. In theory it should suffer but others in this thread have claimed otherwise. I know on my '06 6.0 mpg went down in tow haul. Haven't played with it in the '09 duramax yet.

It makes absolutely no sense that you would get BETTER mpg with Tow/Haul - it keeps your RPMs higher and delays up-shifts. By definition, you're burning more gas. Unless something has changed, there is no change to the engine tuning, it only changes shifting.

You'd think, right???? Best guess I have is this is the result of a ton less gear hunting than what occurs in normal mode. This seems to allow the AFM to work more intelligently. I hold in 4cyl much longer and can actually accelerate in 4cyl mode.
