Apple Play Added To 14/15 Silverado

I was actually wondering the same thing and most of the threads are around changing the setup to include Nav functions. I would like just the Car Play and not the Nav. So I think it is a valid question. Has anyone gotten an upgrade that just adds Car Play without the Nav? If so how do you like it? Was it worth the expense?

My buddy did it to his 14 Sierra and he likes it but thinks it is not worth the $. He wished he added video in motion with it. I would just get mirroring/video in-motion instead of carplay personally.

There are so many options you can add besides carplay. Text Anthony (919)995-9523 at MVI and ask him anything you need answers to. This topic has been gone over many times on another thread if you feel like reading a lot. You will have to send in your HMI unit with any of the upgrades.

We upgraded our 2015i Tahoe to have CarPlay.

I went through Anthony at MVI right when he was first selling the upgrade. He was patient and extremely responsive -- he probably answered a 100 questions that I had. :)

CarPlay will always have haters, but at the end of the day, it pretty much comes down to Apple and how they plan to support it in the future.

For example, 9.3 public beta 1, the now playing screen would re-spring every few seconds and you couldn't select any music. 9.3 public beta 2 it seems to be back to normal.

You really can't blame GM, because Projection is like a dumb terminal.

My gut says CarPlay will get better, but not anytime soon. By the time iOS 10 rolls out, 2017's will be rolling out and CarPlay will have a much larger user base.

Did you get just the CarPlay? Did you have to do a core exchange?

@JustMike

I just purchased the modules outright. I figured if something went wrong, I could just reinstall the original ones.

To be honest, I haven't had any real issues since the install.

Not sure if this is off topic but how can I add texting to my 2014 denali 1500?

Dealer can't do it. As stated above, Text Anthony (919)995-9523 at MVI. They have various options depending on your stock configuration.

We can do just the CarPlay without the factory NAV, without any issue at all. Just shoot me a text and we can discuss everything

If you have carplay without the factory nav can you use the maps on the iPhone on the screen for navigation? I would have texted but its early sunday morning.

No worries...I'm already at it today. So yea...if you do just CarPlay/Android Auto without the NAV, you can use Apple/Google Maps and utilize your cell phone as the mapping. That will rely on cell signal, but I think most phones these days have pretty good coverage. I used mine the other day for a long period of time and it never failed. I've also had a couple guys take the factory NAV system out and use just the phone mapping and seem to love it. If for nothing else at all...the upgrade is worth it simply for the faster processor in my opinion. Runs so much smoother and faster than the old. The voice recognition is way better as well...if you speak clearly, you can speak an short paragraph and it will pick it up. I've never seen the voice rec this accurate in the GM vehicles. Its pretty impressive actually.

If you have further questions...TEXT, I'll be around today and you wont be bothering me. I wont be in here today much longer.
