Help with install of a Driver Assist Handle in 2014 Silverado

Is there a good way to remove the metal clip holding the tether strap? It appear there is a guide spear on the new molding that has to go into the hole in the A pillar that this clip is installed into. Otherwise it looks like you have to cut the guild post off?

Does this assist handle affect the operation of the Air Bag? Or does the bag just simpliy bust through the molding shattering it into pieces.? Is this a problem?

I took needle nosed pliers and pulled the black tether off the stock molding. Its like a button on a shirt. The plastic post on the new molding I cut because I could not have that in and line up the bolts to bolt the molding on. Cut it off and it lined right up

Wife is gone with the truck now, when she gets home I will have to measure exactly where that guide post fits, maybe it is for a 2015 or 16 truck.

Surprised the kit came with no bolts. Are those metric threads?

Where did you get it from. I think I got mine from gmautodirect. Mine had the bolts and washers. That black tether I left in. I just laid it flat and put the molding on so if I ever need to put the stock one on I can just like factory

No need to cut anything. DO NOT CUT THE TETHER!!! Un-clip the black tether just in case you want to reinstall the original cover later on. If you did not get the hardware, contact your seller. They need to send it to you.

Well, I double check the box and no bolts, they I decided to look in the bubble wrap again and there they were. I think they are metric threads.

All is well and the assist handle is installed. I did not have to remove the tether strap or the clip holding the strap to the A pillar. I just trucked it up out of the way and cut off the triangular guide piece with a Dremel multi-tool and it looks and works great.

Even if you cut the tether you can still re-install the standard trim later (but I don't know why you would want to). All the tether does is keep the trim from flying around the cab if the airbag goes off. If you hit anything hard enough to make the airbag deploy I don't think a piece of plastic trim is going to be your biggest problem, besides the trim could still rotate and hit you anyway even with the tether connected ...
