2016 Center Console Phone Charging Lid

Recommended Posts

I bought a '15 and now see the 2016 1500 has the lid to the center console that charges your cell phone. Has anyone ordered this part and replaced? What is the part # and how did you install. Thanks!

Are you looking to add this to your truck? We had a customer ask about it. The wiring harness in the center console, the lid (obviously) and the BCM are different (2015 vs.2016). It's possible that the HMI module may be different as well. Not exactly plug and play.

i saw that many people had wanted to do wireless charging so i decided to make a video to share on how i did mine. hope this will help someone out on their project. it was not very hard to do and only cost about $19 it works very well and you need almost no tools. you dont even have to cut any wires no no void of warranty.

Wireless Charging Part 1

Wireless Charging Part 2

Thanks for the inspiration of all the people in this forum

The DIY route is probably your only good option as the OEM charging pad interfaces with HMI/BCM, as there are indicators in the IntelliLink/ MyLink screen indicating it's charging, if memory serves.

keep in mind wireless charging is slow like a trickle charge and also will kill your battery faster ie) less lifespan. Also if you use carplay or android auto its useless for that.

Other than that it is nice but people have had issues with phone cases fitting and charging properly.

tldr; its ok but not that great really.

It is not a slow or trickle charge, it is a standard rate charge which now is not the norm as most phones (Samsung as an example) offer adaptive fast charging chargers which can charge in 1.5 hours. My console charger can charge 3-5% during my 20 minute drive into work.

As of now I don't think Apple offers wireless charging built into the phone, originally wireless charging came out via cases you could put on your phone. Now Samsung offers it on all of their new phones.

FFS, you think it would kill some people to do a simple 5 second google search.

Answer, yes it is slower. Thanks Physics.

P.S. Mine take ~1 hour from 0 to 100% so in 20 mins that would be ~30-33%. Thanks Math. 3-5% is best described as a trickle charge.

The factory wireless charging pad sounds like a nice option. Actually it only works well under optimum conditions. I have a Motorola turbo 2 very finicky to get it to charge and with any type of case renders it worthless. My alternative is a Verizon 12volt cigarette lighter charging cord. Plugs in and just a small section of the coiled cord visible plugged into the phone lying in the charging cradle. Works perfectly. I just leave it plugged in as the power shuts down with the ignition turned off.

Honestly, it really just depends on the phone, the charger, whether the phone is in use while it's charging, etc...

There's a test posted for the Galaxy Note 5 which shows the standard wireless charger goes from 0-100% in a hair over 3 hours, while the fast wireless charger takes around 110 minutes, and the plugged in fast charging takes 90.

I have an iPhone 7plus and the charger is fiddly. I added a charging stick on pad, deal. It works, but if the case is on, it doesn't fit. I don't love the charger. It's ok. Besides, I like my phone in front of me anyway, not to the side where the charger is.
