What is this extra dealer fee?

I have noticed that sometimes when people buy cars from the dealer that they get charged $995.00 for some type of paint coating or protection.

 

I know it is a rip off, but was wondering what it is they are trying to sell you?

They are selling pure profit.

its lots of things possibly depends on the dealer. Could be interior scotch guard protection, window tint, pin striping, exterior sealant, etc. All of which can be had cheaper or done yourself.

Things that can be done yourself. I've always just avoided any of it.

It's just a way for the stealership to make more money off of the customer, plain and simple. The more BS the customer believes, the more money the stealership makes.
