First oil change is the life monitor set short for the first time?

2400 miles and I'm @52%. I'm doing mine at 3000 no matter what the % is and a tire rotation. I always rotate every oil change so I can avoid cupping and uneven wear. Retired mechanic down the block said that it will increase the life of the tires and keep them evenly worn. He must be on to something as my other vehicle I put 34k on it in 8 months and the tires are wearing perfectly. When I didnt rotate as often I always had some minimal cupping.

Not to derail, but do your Dealers put a sticker on your windshield after an oil change? If so, what does it say?

After my 1st change, it said come back in 3,000 miles (forget the date). I disregarded it because the guy who did my oil change that day was misinformed basically (long story involving not getting 8qts of oil).

After my 2nd oil change, it now says come back in 4,000 miles, or 3 months....?? Can someone explain?

I gotta ask my Service writter about it.

The dealers I've used also do the same thing with the sticker.

The more you change the oil, the more money they make. (even on the ones that GM covers as 'warranty').

Service writer will give the same song and dance about why it should be changed early -- probably even offer a testimonial example of some vehicle they know of.

2016 owner's manual says:

"If the system is ever reset accidentally, the oil must be changed at 5 000 km (3,000 mi) since the last oil change.
Remember to reset the oil life system whenever the oil is changed."
Service people seem to pick and choose when to go by the technology and when not to. We've all heard the 'it hs no code so it must be ok' stories -- yet the same person tells us they know better than the OLM. Hmmmm.

Mine says to return in July or 7800 miles or something like that. So 3500 miles. It has taken me since Oct. 6 of last year to reach 3200 miles and 15% oil life.
