Couple of questions about 2016 single cab sierra

Recommended Posts

Hello, I'm from the middle east and the single cabs are quite popular, and I'm planning to buy. I have a few questions:

Sadly the 2016 single cab doesn't have the same headlights/tail lights, can live with the headlights but the tail lights is the issue, is the tail lights exactly like the 2014? Or there is a difference?

I have read 2016 tail lights doesn't fit to 2014, is it confirmed already? Is there an aftermarket that looks identical?

They are sadly different. Just like as how rierra posted.

But the newer ones should fit the fender. Wiring for the LED's might be a different issue.

The lights look identical in size.

Redwngr: So you're saying the singlecab lights are different than 2015? In terms of size?

all 16 model sierras have the new front end and headlights , does not matter if its a single cab or crew ..... i think the led tail lights are only on slt and up trims .... the tail lights are the same size 14-16 , the new led light just has different wiring for leds but it would fit any 14-16 truck ,

if that truck does not have the new headlights its a 15 model or they market single cabs different over there ?

Yes, they all do. But as far as I know, the single cab is only SLE, which means the headlight is slightly different, and the tail light is similar or exactly like the 2014/15. Here are more pictures of SLE (red) and SLT (white).

The 2016 rear lights by size and shape are the same, the plug is different than the 2014/15 though from what I saw yesterday when I changed out the reverse light bulbs.

Off topic but do they not offered factory tinted glass there? Those crew cabs look weird with out it.

Color me black, but I like the 2014/2015 style tail lights better anyways. The 2016 new style looks rice to me.

They stand out too much, just like a set of ricer tail lights stand out on a honda civic with a fart can muffler.

I've got it wrong. I thought the red truck was an earlier year. (and I thought all 16's got the new led tailights like the white truck.)

White truck has the LED headlights and LED taillights. Are the tails on the red truck LED? If not, then the next question is are they wiring plugs compatible?

SLE trim can have LED taillights if GAT package equipped. SLT's always get LED tails.

LED headlights come on SLE with GAT, and are included on SLT's with (PDT) SLT Crew Cab Premium Plus Package and (STF) All Terrain X Package. Early SLT production had the LED headlights mandatory.

But the LED headlights are great!

The red truck is a sle not slt .... Never seen a slt regular cab .... So no led tails ... Same light size but plug is different .... It will fit but you will have to figure out wiring

I agree with fonupot .... I hate the gmc led tails .... Look likes 1980s mini truck .... And the headlights look bug eyed ... I think the 14-15 sierra lights looked better even if they sucked .... I like the 16 Silverado LEDs better

My bad, edited.

Thanks guys for the replies, I just hope one day someone will try it out and share it here.

Not sure, but usually people prefer it that way, they don't mind the aftermarket tint.

    • That makes sense, and I think you are describing the real product problem. Capturing data is the easy part. If the owner or technician has to manually dig through five minutes of millisecond-level logs, the product has already failed. The device would be at the ECM harness, not at the OBD port, so I agree that data retrieval and event marking need to be thought through carefully. The way I am thinking about the architecture is: The recorder itself should not depend on a phone, app, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or cloud connection to capture the event. It should always keep a local rolling buffer and lock the event locally. A button, phone app, or small cabin device would only act as an event marker. If the driver feels a stumble and presses the button 10–30 seconds later, the pre-buffer has to already contain the useful data. For data retrieval, the practical options would be a sealed service USB lead, Wi-Fi download, or a phone/cabin companion device. I would not expect the owner to remove the ECM-side module or work with raw files directly. The cloud or AI side would be for interpretation, not for capturing the event. The truck may have no connection when the issue happens, so the evidence has to be saved locally first. After that, cloud processing could help decode the data, compare it against baselines, and generate a readable report. For the first version, I would keep the automatic triggers conservative and objective: driver event marker bus-off error passive voltage drop / brownout device reset FIFO or queue overflow a normally periodic message disappearing side-to-side communication mismatch, if the topology supports that For “learning normal,” I agree with your point, but I would not want to overclaim it as automatic root-cause diagnosis at first. A realistic first step would be learned baseline comparison for that specific vehicle and operating condition. For example, a value would only be compared against similar conditions: RPM range load / MAP throttle position gear / vehicle speed coolant and oil temperature battery voltage AFM/DFM state, if decoded and validated Then the report could flag things like: this periodic message disappeared compared with its normal timing this value deviated from this vehicle’s normal range under similar conditions the same abnormal pattern repeated after the same type of event the anomaly occurred together with voltage, oil-pressure, misfire, or communication changes But I would still call that “abnormal pattern detected,” not “replace this part,” unless there is enough validated repair data behind it. So the intended product would not be “here is a huge log.” It would need to be an event package: what triggered the capture how much pre/post data was preserved what changed before and after the event whether the device itself reset, overflowed, or saw a bus error selected graphs around the event raw data only as supporting evidence From your perspective, what would make this kind of report useful instead of just another datalog? For example: What are the top 5 parameters or events you would want highlighted first? Would you trust a learned baseline for that specific vehicle, or would you prefer fixed thresholds? How much false-positive flagging would be acceptable before you stopped looking at the reports? What would a one-page report need to show for an independent shop to take it seriously? For misfire, AFM/DFM, oil pressure, or U-code complaints, what would you want the tool to flag automatically?
