Chevy up gas motor power?

Recommended Posts

Will Chevy ever up motor size of power on the 6.0? I have a 06 2500 and it's been a good motor but in due for a truck. Tax lady says by fall 2017 so I'm curious. Buying a truck is a big decision

I'm betting the 6.0 will be replaced with something else.

Where did you see or hear that the 6.2L engine will be getting replaced?........that's a new rumor for me, haven't heard that one before.

The 6.0L engine used in the HD trucks is a great powerplant and there is no reason for GM to replace it. It's been bullet proof from day one and has performed and lasted while being used and abused. It also outperforms most other HD engines in it's class, even after other manufacturers go through a redesign in an attempt to catch up.

I didn't hear it would be replaced I heard 6.2 was only in the fancy trucks

I thought ford and hemi had both surpassed the 6.0 in ratings?

Maybe the Ford 6.2 has, but the 6.0 is still miles ahead of the hemi.

I'm confused are we talking about the 2500? Cause you state your 2500? They have a 6.6L

Ok I'm with ya. I dk jack bout dodge so was just hear say but few buddies have sold their older ford diesels and picked up the 6.2 in a single cab flat bed dually. Getting about 9mpg hooked to cattle trailer full time. They like the gas and everything so far but as a farmer with a gas truck that's a 2006 model I can say it's lost power but has near 200k. I'm curious to see how the ford holds up to them working that motor the way they do.

6.0 L96 is around for one more year so far. It is on the 2017 GM vin cards so unless they are waiting to change them, I'd expect the 6.0 for maybe one more year at least.

I know the 6.0 has been around for a loooooooooooooooooong time, but yous seriously cannot kill a 6.0. It is a TOUGH unit.

Agreed mine has seen a life of work. But hard to justify a diesel for all the extra cost though the power would be handy at times. I wouldn't buy the diesel to ride around in a day I have like many do

I am in 100% agreement on how great of a motor the 6.0 is. Believe me. But GM along with everyone else has tougher standards they have to meet, emissions, fuel economy (yes we know it's a truck but the government doesn't care) and so as a result, we're seeing new technology being pushed, and phasing out the old reliable trustworthy stuff such as the 6.0. Don't hate the auto manufacturers so much for ditching a specific engine. Aside from needing to compete with one another and keeping the latest and greatest available as options to please the buying public, there are the EPA & fuel economy numbers that the auto makers have to take into account. Thus why we've seen direct injection for the 4.3, 5.3, & 6.2. When GM did away with the 454, many folks said no way would they ever consider a 6.0 or anything else. Yet look what happened with the 6.0, it turned out to be one amazing engine! Give the new engine that does replace the 6.0 a chance.
