So anyone want to talk about the 4.3?

I'm thinking of going to test drive a GMC Canyon this weekend really really to compare for myself the differences between the midsize and fullsize. Based on reviews I've seen online and videos on YouTube, the Colorado/Canyon are very comparable in ride and comfort to the 1500. At only 6 inches difference in width and 2 inches shorter in wheelbase, 2 fullsize adults can fit comfortably in the back seat. With exception of price difference between the 2 since it seems the midsize GMs aren't as flexible on price, the new GM midsize make a lot of sense for a majority of average truck buyers.

 

 

Great question! The Canyons and Colorado's are nice looking trucks and are fun to drive. However, I find greater comfort in a full size truck and I enjoy driving them. I would consider a Yukon XL or Suburban (if they offered a 4X4 V6 combination) but I get more use out of a pickup box than I would out of 3rd row seating!

It would be good to hear your impressions of the Canyon. They are a sharp looking truck. I think once you climb back into your own truck after the test drive you'll notice a considerable size difference. This is either a positive or a negative depending on the individual but it was such a comparison that keeps me in a full size truck.

I'm actually getting annoyed with the size of my truck. I love the spacious interior no doubt, but driving around the suburbs and parking in congested parking spots is becoming a pain. I'm not a fan of dealing with that day to day, downsizing is looking better each and everyday. The only think keeping me from running to the dealership is playing dealership games.

I apologize to the originator of this thread for getting off topic however Silverado Steve brings up very good points for discussion! The full size pickup can be a pain for parking, traffic and tight spaces. The midsize pickup, especially the Canyon or Colorado, is a great option. I don't live in an area where these problems regularly present themselves and I am fortunate enough to have my wife's small car for the Christmastime mall crowds! I've also owned a full sized pickup since I started driving so I am pretty comfortable in relatively tight situations! With respect to the dealership games, I have a suggestion. If you have more than one dealership within a reasonable distance, try the one you would not normally consider. I did this last time to avoid the pressure and expectations from the staff where I purchased and serviced my previous truck. I went in with no intention of doing business and got all of the test drives and information I needed. I made it clear to them from the start that I was not buying a truck that day. I was so impressed with how this was respected and the lack of pressure that I returned the next day and left with a new truck.

4.3 is rated at 7700 lbs of towing with more weight in the bed.The 5.3 with 3.08 gears is rated at 7,000 lbs of towing with less weight in the seems like an easy call here.lol.

I did look into the Canyon when I got my Sierra, but in the end chose the Sierra because it felt roomier and was similar in price.

I got it in my 2015 regular cab. My friend thought it was a V8 until I told him. It's plenty powerful and has a nice sound when you step on it. It has 2,800 miles on it. Says I'm only getting 16.7 mpg average. This truck rarely sees any highway driving.

I've had my 2014 V6 for two years now. Love it, have a black bear tune and it's perfect for me. I don't tow, or haul anything other than a weekend trip to Home Depot. I chose Front bucket seats and center console over the V8. Some may say that's crazy but I don't like bench seats and knew what I was going to be using the truck for and new the V6 would work perfectly for me decided to race my cousins 2012 V6 Malibu last night and my truck won. I didn't buy it to race, just wanted to see what a 5k plus pound truck could do against a lighter car with a V6.

i have a 2014 silverado with 4.3 and 3-23 gears pulls every thing i need to , i average 21 mpg , have 42,000 miles on it

this is the 4 th 4.3 i've owned over the years put over 300,000 on all of them . this is the best one so far , i hope it last as long

my last one was a 2000 silverado and my grandson is taking it when he turns 16
