Denali Cluster Swap - Programming Question

Recommended Posts

I found myself a new Denali cluster that I want to swap into my yet-to-arrive SLT All Terrain. I have been told by one guy that the swap was plug and play. I have been told by others that the mileage is stored in the BCM and not the cluster and programming wont be needed. I have also been told that if the cluster isn't programmed for your truck, that it will lock out when you install it and you're hooped.

Can anyone (GM Techs, etc.) confirm what kind of cluster programming is necessary? Can it be done on the bench or does it need to be installed?

This has already been asked in these threads. It should be a simple swap and it will lock out the cluster until you go to the dealer to unlock it and add that cluster to your VIN. At least that's how I've done it on other vehicles and it worked.

If we (WAMS) program the unit it will be plug and play; this is not something a dealer can do in fact we do this for dealers all over the world. DO NOT install anything into your truck without us taking care of it first or it will render it inoperable and you'll own a brick.

We also need to verify the cluster has the same MOST bus revision as the rest of the truck as there are a bunch of different Denali clusters out there (they all physically look the same).

Awesome, thank for the follow up! I'll be looking for one too.

Just finished another one of these for a goofy build a 2015 NON AVF (non 15.5) that has most 15.5 equipment IE 8 speed and other electronics changes. Total pain in the butt but so worth it when you get it in your truck haha :)

Hey Chris,

Can this be done for the 2016 HC Silverado?

I know it can be done, but wasn't sure if it compatible for the 16.

Yup we can build some thing for those as well :)

Does anyone know if the 2016 Tahoe LTZ cluster will fit in a 2016 Silverado LTZ? After a lot of research I found that the Tahoes come with a cluster like the Denali's except the illumination is Blue not red. But I just not have found if they will fit/work

THe tahoe LTZ does not come standard with the partially digital cluster. I do not know if it will work, but I know it is an option on a tahoe/suburban ltz and you dont see it very much.

Not all tahoe or suburban ltz models come with this digital cluster - it is not standard.

I know that it is not standard, but I just mainly need to know if it will work. Since the Denali cluster will work in a Silverado or yukon, it seems like it would

we have the "digital" cluster in our 2016 Tahoe ltz. I think it might be paired with the heads up display "hud" that also came with the truck.

If we program it yes. We also can put that color scheme on a Denali cluster. You'd just still have red needles.

Thanks GTPprix. That is the info I needed so that I can order that cluster. I don't personally care for all that red and would like the blue from the Chevy cluster.

Chris (GTPprix),

I recently purchased a 2016 Sierra Denali so I already have the cluster. I want to add the HUD (like in the Denali Yukon's) to my truck. My questions are:

1) Is the cluster already capable of HUD output (it should have the HUD output connector, I have not taken mine apart yet to verify but it looks like all the Denali clusters have the connector)?

2) If it is capable of HUD output, does it need programming to enable this or is it already enabled (at least for the Sierra Denali truck cluster which does not have the HUD option)?

3) If i get a factory HUD unit, does this require programming to make it work with the HUD or is this more of a slave device and all the programming is in the cluster?

4) Has anyone else that you know of added HUD to the Sierra?

Thanks for you time and answers!
