Need new tailgate for 2016 Silverado 1500 - help please

So I backed my pickup truck into a random pole in the woods when trying to back my pickup with my quad in the bed into the woods.

The tailgate was down when I backed it into the hidden pole. So it crunched the top of it. My tailgate also had the spray on bed liner. Any ideas?

insurance claim.. or just buy a nice stolen one off Craigslist.... Maybe you'll luck out and find the right color.

This was brought up recently... these tailgates are not cheap. Take fault for the accident and report it to your insurance company.

That's no chit. Stolen tailgates are costing between 5-7 THOUSAND dollars to replace.

Thats a little extreme, no way a tailgate is 20% of the value of the car. I am not buying full tailgate, just exterior and upper piece and swap in the lock and camera.....etc

Where are you located?

I am on long island but was in Westchester when it happened.

Speaking of tailgates...

I just realized yesterday that the locking tailgate doesn't lock with the rest of the truck when you use the fob. WTFs up with that? When I realized that, I locked it w/ the key, but I was surprised to learn that.

They didn't add the power lock feature until the 2016 models.

I will look into that. I know that McGard makes tailgate locks, but I ASSUMEd that I didn't need one. Glad I know different now. With my luck, the ONE TIME that I forget to lock the gate w/ the key is the time it will get taken.

Somehow I ended up buying both a Master Lock Tailgate Lock and then a Pop N Lock. Guess I'm covered.
