2 Piece Rear Brake Backing Plates

Any advice on replacing the rusted out original plates? The 2 piece plates sound less labor intensive. I have been told they don't fit very well.

Did backing plates on my '03 2wd a couple years ago. Opted for the "lazy man's" 2-piece units ($25 from Rockauto). They work as advertised, although figuring out how they mated was like solving a Rubiks cube. Really didn't want to pull axles.
