Hard start, fuel pump??

It all started a few days ago, its a 2008 silverado with the 5.3 flex fuel. I tried cranking and it did not turn on. It turned on the third time cranking. Took it to the mechanic and I have a p0102 code. Replaced maf sensor and no change. Took it to a mechanic and he said there was no fuel pressure when cranking. Fuel pump he said. Everything points to a fuel pump but that code I mentioned earlier really made me think otherwise. Any input???Thanks.

You will need to get fuel pressure before proceeding. Its probably the pump, but could be a wiring issue. How many miles are on the truck?

If you have no fuel pressure, it points to a fuel pump related issue

There are 101k miles and apparently there is pressure just not when cranking

Go to Auto Zone or any of the stores that loan tools and get a fuel pressure gauge. Check for yourself to see what pressure you are getting while cranking or with the key turned on. My 2002 was below 50psi and it would start but after the second turn of the key. I changed out the fuel pump and all has been well. It is like a new vehicle. Starts right up.

Just did and these are my findings, fuel pressure when key to on position 0, fuel pressure when cranking 0, even when I finally get the truck to sputter to life it takes a couple seconds for pressure to build up to around 50 psi. What fuel pump did you use??

I could hear pump priming just not building up pressure.

55-65 psi, iirc Key on engine off. Below 55 issues will begin to arise.

 

So the pump runs every time the key is on, but you get zero pressure?

I can hear the pump prime but fuel pressure remains zero yes, and thats what Im getting a friend of mines keeps telling me to get a cheap ebay pump but Idk...

Another thing in the mornings or after a few hours of letting the truck sit it starts right up problem arises after trying to start the truck after driving it.

Cheap ebay pump = do it again real soon. Its not worth the savings to have to either drop the tank or pull the bed IMHO, not to mention the short life span of the aftermarket pumps....been there, done that.

I agree I will just get an ac delco, I dont like the idea of putting cheap parts on my beautiful truck.

You should be good for another 100,000 miles.
