Getting a Topper!

Well, I wanted a Yukon or Tahoe and liked everything about em except the price! So in one of the fourms I read somebody say, "save yourself 15K and buy a truck with same features and put a camper shell on it"

Needless to say I started to think well... dude is probably correct! The deals are hardly never as good on full size SUV'S as Trucks. If I told you what I paid for the truck everybody would say "WTF" I am GMS so I should be paying far less than non-GMS sorry it's only fair.

ANyway I got snugtop! And hopefully it all goes well! I went to many truck fourms and got great information on the various tops and quality etc. Maybe, I will post a picture after I get it installed too!

Also it's been awhile since I have dealt with a topper on a truck. I would have to go back to corrugated aluminum with the yellowed out sun baked windows, filled with empty beer cans, cigs, roaches, broken fishing poles etc. you get the picture young and dumb!

Just put a Leer topper on my trick last year and absolutely love it. My only regret is not having bought one for my previous trucks. It is great when you want to stop on your way somewhere and not worry about getting your stuff stolen

Yup, I too am in the market for getting one. Looking to see which ones are the easiest to put on and take off as that will be a huge deciding factor. I frequently have to haul tall items in the bed.

your looking at something like bottom line Leer. It will do fine. It will still be heavy and a chore to take off though!

Like I always say, "Once you go topper you never go back"

Probably get you a screaming deal on used one! But don't go with the non-name brands! You will be disappointed with their crap!

Unfortunately none of the new ones are easy to take off without damaging them. They all have a lip that extends down over the outside edge of the bed rail (it covers the exposed side of the bed rail cap). If you aren't very careful putting them on and taking them off (and storing them when they are off) you start to bust the lip on the topper.

Got ya! They are not like the 80's aluminum super light etc. grab a buddy and pull it. If your garage is permitting you can devise a setup with cheap 2 sheave block and drive under hook up and pull it up yourself! You can always use this method outside the house too!

Some people have much space and ease to do these things other not so much! Just giving you ideas. Obviously we you store them on nice pieces of wood up in the air a few feet and throw a tarp over it. So they are suspended in air and protected. Damn varmints always wanted to camp out in it! So put it in the air!

Just got an A.R.E. Last week. Love it. But I'll never be taking it off. I think they said it weighs 175#. Love the look and the usability.

Love my Century brand topper on my RCLB. Needed it to keep my dogs, dog training equipment, and hunting gear out of the weather. Topper shop said it weighs around 200lbs.; I think it goes a bit more. It is a long bed though.

If'n you don't mind the link; here's a couple pix. Post 31.
