Was able to replicate the sound with a tech that came for a ride with me. Offered to let him drive to see if he could hear it better from the driver's seat but he said its just the noisy high pressure fuel system. I'll learn to live with it unless a more common fix comes out. They didn't see interested in looking up any service bulletins, so there was no mention of PIP5395D

I did find the TSB online though. It's for cars but the last part is relevant

#PIP5395D: Ticking Rattle Or Buzz Noise Heard The Best In The Passenger Compartment - (Feb 8, 2018)
Subject: Ticking Rattle Or Buzz Noise Heard The Best In The Passenger Compartment imag

Supersession Statement
This PI was superseded to update Model Years. Please discard PIP5395B.

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern

A customer concern of rattle or ticking noise that is louder inside the vehicle than outside.
The noise may be picked up at the back of the left valve cover.
The noise may also sound like a lifter tick.
This may also be called a fuel line buzz or ringing noise.

Recommendation/Instructions
Listen to the fuel line connection at the left side of the engine.
If the noise is heard best at the fuel line (this sound will be real loud with a stethoscope).

The fuel feed line between the high pressure fuel pump and chassis fuel line could be the cause allowing high pressure pulsation back to the low side of the fuel system. There is not a good way to test the check valve, the line will need to be replaced.

On pickups and SUVs, a vibration in the fuel line at the fuel tank may also be observed.

There are two different fuel line types that contain this check valve and vary by model."

I've been following this thread for a long time, hoping for a resolution.  My truck has had the tick almost since day one, but now has a buzzing to go with it at 12k miles.  I am scheduled to take it into the dealer next Monday and plan on showing them the TSB info.

If the dealer won't change the fuel line part, has anyone attempted doing it themselves?  The part itself is cheap.  Accessing the back end of it looks like a pain.  I've never worked on fuel systems before, so I'm not sure if it's plug and play, or if there are other steps like having to bleed/prime the fuel system after the part is replaced.

My dealer changed both fuel feed line, fuel feed pump, and full exhaust.  The sound won... I couldn't deal with a truck that made that noise constantly, while all the other loaner sierras I got were quiet as a church mouse.  Just got rid of the sierra and couldn't be happier.  Good luck to ya'll - i'll keep an eye on this thread to see if a fix is ever found.

what I'm not understanding about this service bulletin is if there isn't an updated part # on the fuel line, how would replacing it with the same one change anything?

Makes me want to call the dealership back, but looksstock mentioned that it didn't fix the problem

I have zero hope that the dealer will resolve anything, but I want to get my complaint on record.  Luckily I have the AC blasting all summer here in the south and it covers up the sound for the most part.  The sound seems more sporadic in the winter.

I think the problem is in that check valve.. what I also think is a problem is many of us are thinking this “ticking” are different things based on our own perception. Some may be talking about the distinctive noise of the direct injected motor, but the sound I’m talking about is very fluid like/air like. It’s gotta be exhaust or fuel related and it comes only from the footwell of the cab and will stop and start on a dime at random and can be triggered by bumps.

i can assure you that's exactly what I have. I was entirely convinced it was exhaust related until reading about this line. This is different than the typical direct injection sounds described in other posts

Injector tick I can deal with.  I am hearing a chugging (see this video from a different post, mine is the exact same).  Plus I now have a buzzing/air sound like an exhaust leak.

I think the fix is that check valve it makes the most sense to me. It’s a very distinct sound, I’m going to have my dealer perform the tsb sometime in the near future and see what happens.
