Wow, same issues with 2017 suburban. Two of my neighbors bought the same truck and no tick. Mine has it. Random, hear it on drivers side, heard in drive throughs at times, cruising on highway or driving slow around 1500 to 2k rpms. Brought it in 3 separate times. They finally said they're performing the below. We'll see how it goes, but I'm not optismistic.

Actually that might not be the tab, but here's the part they ordered.

My dealer refused to replace that part after I showed them a TSB that says to replace it. They said the TSB is not valid for my truck and opened up a TAC case with GM and they said there is currently no resolution.

The solution is switch to Ford, the number one selling truck in America for 475 years now.

Cant wait to be out of my 16 rado I will never buy GM again. Had a Impala ss a few years ago and that was the biggest pos I ever owned, don’t know why I went back to Chevy.

This engine tick is doing more harm under the covers than you could imagine. No other manufacturer has a ticking engine.
Had an expedition for 10 yrs before this suburban. Had ticking, and corroded bubbling paint on hood and tailgate. Fuel pump went out twice. Oh, and the spark plugs broke off in head. Ford has its ****ups too. Can't win........

See way more 96-02 expedition and explorer than blazers and Tahoe’s. When’s the last time you saw a 92 Chevy truck? You don’t because they don’t last. Go to the working mans part of town you’ll see a 92 f series.

New expeditions do look nice. They look like a suburban. Lol

I’ve probably had 50 small block Chevy engines from 150 HP to over 400. Never lost one, most of the good running ones had a tic.

what the hell are you smoking?  I live in the truck capital of the united states and there are 10 old Chevy trucks to ever 1 Ford and Dodge.  Sorry son, your argument don't hold shit around here.

That’s your particular area..sorry dad numbers don’t lie. F series best selling truck 97362 years now. Maybe the people in ur area can’t afford a new ford? That’s why I didn’t get one lol.

Cruise by the mansions here and all f150s

the man man who said he had 49 engines well none of them had afm which is the cause of the tick imo.

Cruise by the Mansions there and they all have F150’s??

I've tried.  Problem is the sound isn't present at idle.  Those engines make so many noises, it's hard to track things down.  Everything to me sounds like it's vibrating.  Vacuum pump, fuel line, etc.

I had the fuel feed pipe replaced to no avail.  I've settled on the fact that it is a rattle somewhere, because I can go over a bump and the noise stops for a while.  When the weather cools down a bit, I am going to tap around under the truck to try and locate things.  Also planning to dynamat the driver floor and firewall inside.

One thing I've read on these forums kinda makes sense as a culprit, and its the starter not fully retracting and bouncing off the flywheel.  This could be intermittent, and initiated/stopped with bumps.

I know sometimes in a fast food drive through, it's real loud. Ricochets off the building wall near drivers side. Think they'll mind if crawl under my truck next time to find the noise? Lol. I'll say my tranny blew.

I think my neighbors are beginning to wonder why I come home everyday and open the hood of my 1 year old truck.  Then crawl around under it while I have my 7 year old son rev the engine.

    • I find it amusing the OP doesn’t realize this threads heading includes several engines. He should have posted in the off topic section if he wanted a more narrow focus. I really appreciate and find amusing that he actually pointed out one of my many vehicles. The Odyssey. That happens to use 0-20 oil. I love pushing his buttons.
    • Maybe, but it seems he is the only one that has backed up data to prove what he is stating. I think he is doing this more because he enjoys it and wants to get the information out to us. He's got the knowledge and access to the proper equipment and having the funds doesn't hurt.  I would love to do what he is doing and would do it if and when I hit the Powerball.  I'm not a Tribologist by any means but love to learn what I can.   I would bet there would be doubting people out there if a completely independent lab with high quality work and highly respected in the automotive industry, put out information like this.  The world can't be pleased, one just has to take the information that they are given, do more of their own research to find actual lab data to back up what they are trying to figure/find out.  Most don't bother, they just want to believe what they first see.     I don't have the minimax but my 6.2 in my 2019 Silverado with 64k miles shows excellent UOA results with 0w-20 and for my own purposes 5w-20.  Since not much of a change using 5w. I liked the data sheet information on the SS 5w-20 and figured I would give it a try.  Still the same viscosity at 100℃.   In the end we all just do what makes us happy, life is too short to get upset over trivial social media.   On a side note, I do feel GM has dropped the ball and just cares about the bottom dollar and not quality anymore.  "Like a Rock" has been long gone.  Seems "Built Ford Tough" has as well.
    • Better than stock but that's like putting lipstick on a pig
    • Hello, my 3 month old Sierra Elevation wont recognize a trailer with electric brakes? All the lights work correctly, but no power to the brakes?   This is the factory installed brake controller. If you manually push the knob, the display shows the power % but does not light up like my 2022 silverado.   I have an appointment with the dealer, but was checking to see if anyone else has seen this issue.    Thanks,
    • Been using SS 0w-20 from new, but wanted to change to the 5w-20 because I liked the data on the data sheet, to me it seems like a little better product. But as you can see, not much difference. This is also with running a mix of 10 gallons E85 to a tank topped with 93. It isn't a flex fuel vehicle so any higher I get a CEL for running lean on both banks. Yes my mileage takes a hit. Instead of 20 mpg I normally get on trips I get 17mpg. This is also using EaO17 filter.  What is amazing is I have the AMSOIL cone filter on it since I have the GM Performance intake installed and that air filter has 44k miles on it.  I just take it out and shop vac it off once a year.  I use the upholstery tool on my shop vac.  Works well.
