06 Ignition switch turns hard

Very hard to turn key switch on. Have tried both my keys and same problem with both keys. I have found new switch but news which I don't think will operate door key. How do it get it to work with old keys. Does key man have to change anything

Yes, as vehicles get older, both the keys and the pins in the lock wear, and eventually results in the keys no longer enabling the lock to operate.

 

I have no idea if you can order a new lock mechanism from GM using your VIN to get it pre-set to use your existing keys [which may or may not work, depending on how worn they are], or if you have to take the new lock mechanism to a locksmith [or if the GM dealership will do it] to make it work with your keys.

 

How/where did you find a "new switch"? Is it a used lock mechanism from another truck, or you bought a new one from someone?
