Clock on radio time reset

Truck threw code u1096 (lost connection with instrument cluster) along with P0300, P0174 the other day. Checked codes before light went off. Comes back on when eng runs rough, once every day or so.

Now I've noticed that the clock on the radio is reset every time I start the truck and happened once when the radio lost power during drive to work. All stock truck, I have not messed with the instrument cluster or radio at all...

Thoughts & suggestions?

About two months ago, I found my clock resetting and the radio losing its presets about every third or fourth time I started my truck. Then one day the battery was nearly dead. Installing a new battery fixed all of that, hasn't happened since. Something in my battery was causing power loss when the truck was turned off.

Your problem may differ, but a battery test might procide some info, or at least eliminate it as a cause.

I neglected to mention in my post that if the batt was failing then when it cut power or did not supply enough power to the radio it reset the clock but not the stations presets.. every time I've disconnected a batt or had one fail the stations always reset. this is why I think its not the batt...

yeah, that could fix it as the batt is a few years old and showed signs during colder weather.. now its hot as hell in vegas so it probably just got zapped.

I'm thinking the battery as well being as PO300 is a random misfire. So that tells you you've got a Low Spark somewhere. ;)

Have an 03 Chevy Silverado that the clock was resetting to 12:00 sporadically when started. My dome light was flickering and the bulb was loose. Tightened bulb down so dome light came on and went off properly.

Resetting time issue stopped.
