Trans Cooler Help

Hello, new member looking for help on adding a GM external trans cooler. I have a 2013 GMC Yukon XLT with 5.3, 6 speed trans. I tow a hybrid camper maxing out at 5995#. At times temps run in 220 range in traffic it's been as high as 250 on a hot day. Without towing runs 195-205 in warmer temps.

According to my dealer, GM doesn't make a kit which is what I have found, but I have found a cooler with inlet and outlet pipes all seperate which I have been told fits my vehicle by another dealer. Part #'s are as follows: 20880895, Trans cooler, 25999420, Inlet pipe, and 15779543, outlet pipe. There is also a clip to hold the pipes. My question is will these work or is my dealer correct? Also they told my I can run up to 330 degrees until my light comes on. I find this hilarious as well, but I could be wrong. Thanks for any help.

I would say they would work. Might want to double check and try to get up with MS3DALE on here and ask him. It should be an easy install.

 

I take it yours doesn't have a transmission cooler on it already? Odd, I pretty much thought they all came with one now unless you get a bare bones vehicle.

 

Temps past 250 is not good, One other protection item is to run a full synthetic ATF fluid since synthetic holds up to the heat better.

Thanks for the help, for some reason GM doesn't put an external cooler on the Yukon even with the tow package, but with the trucks they do. I do run synthetic so I'm good there.

You can easily go aftermarket as well

A Long Tru-Cool 40,000 GVW/45,000 BTU cooler is about $150. It is a decent cooler. Just put on on the F150.

That would be what I would do over the factory set up. Especially doing as much towing as you do.

It dropped towing temps from 230 to 199

I got it from Oregin Performance Transmission. It is like $130. i had to pay extra for expedited shipping to get it on the truck before the family went out of town

Yes, but since it was not eligible for Amazon Prime, i ordered directly from the Oregon Performance Transmission website. I think they were a little cheaper than amazon too.

Just got it through their website. Thanks for the help. Still would like to find out if the GM parts are for my vehicle though, so I can shove it in the dealers face. Thanks again for the help.

Just an update, the Tru Cool was too big and some fabrication needed to be done, so sent that back and got the GM one I thought it was through Dorman and the piping and it works like a charm. Towed with it this past weekend and highest I got in all that heat was 219 and that was in traffic, average was 205-212, much better than the 240's I was getting prior. Thanks for the help.
