2016 Sierra SLT Cup Holder Replacement

Hey Guys,

 

I've got a 2016 GMC Sierra SLT, and somehow, I've put a big scratch in the brushed aluminum on top of the cup holder in my center console. I've got the bucket seats / fixed console. I like keep my interior pristine, and this scratch is really bugging me.

 

From my reading, I've found that the cup holders in the 16's cannot be removed easily. Does anyone know if this is something that can be replaced by the dealer?

I know they can on my 2014. Not sure about the 16,......

As I understand it, the cup holders on the 14's and 15's can be snapped in and out of the center console. For some reason, the 16's cannot be snapped in and out as easily. I'm thinking that my center console will have to be disassembled to some degree in order to replace the part

Mine doesn't seem like it will come out. I have been pulling on it and it won't budge at all. There is a tiny bit of play, but it seems to me that this one cannot be removed by the customer. Frustrating.

They do fit tight. Not easily removed. I am betting they are the same.

I think you may be right. I went out to snap a pic and it seems only the insert comes out. The hard rectangular part seems to be permanently installed. Maybe there are catches but they weren't obvious to me.

Are their groves in the open section for the cup holder? That may be a clue?

No grooves like my 15.5 or 14. It does not seem to be able to be moved to the front.

Got a pic of the scratch? You might be able to polish/buff it out with a 3M polish kit.

 

Judging by the pic above it looks like you squeeze the center at both sides with your fingers and pull up with both hands. Never seen a cupholder that did not remove in some fashion. I have the bench seat 3 cup holder and come out easy enough.

Thanks for the tips. I'll run it by the dealer, but I'm guessing I'll just end up paying big bucks for them to replace it, or living with the scratch. Oh well.

I had a 15 before this 16.

 

I don't think the 16's are moveable/removable.

 

The 15 had a nice 'hidden' storage area under the cup holder. The space doesn't seem to be accessible on the 16.

They are removable but as others stated it is not as easy as in the 14's & 15's...to take it out you have to take the whole top part of the center console off...to do that open your kid and pull up on the parts that overlap into the opening...to the left and right of the light...you have to pull hard but they will pop out as they are held in by those metal clips. Then flip it over and you can push on a couple tabs and pop the cupholders out.

The console was changed for 16 so there is no moving the cup holder around like the 14 and 15 was able to do. I believe they had 2 separate consoles for the pick ups vs the SUVs . I'd say the standardized them to the SUV style console when they added the wireless charging.
