2016 Sierra SLT Cup Holder Replacement

Thanks for the tips. I'll run it by the dealer, but I'm guessing I'll just end up paying big bucks for them to replace it, or living with the scratch. Oh well.

If you do buy the part, switch it yourself. I have had my cup holder out a couple of times. The top is the only part that comes out. There is no rear and the front stays in place. See photos

i like them where they are.. nice to see some storage under it.... what i don't like are the long envelope holders at the front.. i usually put my phone there... what do ya'll use them for??... or better yet.. what are they suppose to be used for?

So all they did was take away space we all used. to store stuff..

So now I'm thinking I need to pop the clips off and hold that down with Velcro so I can use the space under there again!!!

i like them where they are.. nice to see some storage under it.... what i don't like are the long envelope holders at the front.. i usually put my phone there... what do ya'll use them for??... or better yet.. what are they suppose to be used for?

I have no idea what the intended purpose of that thing is and always wanted to know. They are certainly odd

But I use mine for quarters. My wife put them there once and I told her it's a dumb spot because they'll just roll around. Well, somehow it works and they just stay put and don't jiggle or anything.

I use the front rubberized area to set my phone. It stays in place there.

As far as removal of the cup holders go, it is held by clips. I used a plastic trim removal tool to get in between the edges and pry up. It pops a little but I haven't broken any clips. It comes out easier each time.

I really want to have access to that area a little easier. Was thinking of buying a 14-15 removable cup holder and setting/ wedging it in place. I think I can remove the front, false edge if I have to

yah.. i'm working with the dealer now to get the damn change holder and tray for in my center arm rest... . didn't even have one in there... thats where i was keeping my change too. but hated to see that crap everywhere!

I think originally in the promo pictures from GM. It's supposed to be for your cell phone or I have seen a pic of a tablet there to.

The front rubber holders are made for phones. You are supposed to put them in there and they stay put when you drive. FYI -- if you pull up on the rubber strip it will pop off for easier cleaning.

GM changed the cupholders for the 2016 models so that they are no longer snap-in. They had a lot of complaints about squeaks and rattles from the other design so I guess this was their fix. You can take it out like DAY11 showed or better yet just buy the cupholder and side/front edges from a 2014/2105 off ebay and you will have the moveable cupholders (they will fit right into the 2016s).

So I picked up a 14-15 cupholder to add to my truck. I shaved the side clips off. It fits well and doesn't seem to make any noise while driving.

As far as switching it out with the original one so you can access the larger storage below, i didn't make the switch yet. The front piece seems to be integral to the armrest so I didn't want to cut it away to make room. I don't want to make the permanent move.

The sides and front panel with the switches are all 1 "u-shaped" piece. You open your console and starting there you can pull up on the edges and work your way toward the switches and it all pops off. When you buy the '14-'15 style you would need the u-shaped piece as well as the inner liner piece that has notches for the cupholders and the deeper storage pocket under the rear cupholder.

I wasn't planning on changing the whole upper console. The 16 cup holders have an integrated front piece. I am not going to remove the integrated front piece so I can place the 14-15 cup holders where the original cup holders go. I am satisfied with having both in place.

Great thread. I came from a 14SLT to a 16Denali and was really curious as to why they took away my secret storage compartment. I was under the impression that the space underneath was now used for the wireless charging controller. Day11 does your truck have the wireless charging pad on the flip up cover? I am not going to take mine off and risk breaking something LOL
