4 wheel drive?

Not necessary, but sticking in 4auto isn't going to hurt anything either, if it makes you feel better. GM specifically says you can run 4auto up to any legal posted limit in the US without worry. Might come in handy. Never know. Pretty benign consequences vs potential benefits.

The 4 Auto is the key to this, 4 Lo and 4 Hi should not be used on dry pavement.

I don't know why a person would need 4 Auto towing in dry conditions either, unless it's fast takeoffs to get up to highway speed where you don't have an on ramp.

I will put my 4 Auto on if it's raining and I'm towing other than that I just tow in 2WD.

And realistically with the added weight of a trailer on the rear you should have a relatively hard time spinning the rear tires.

I just do it to avoid hydro planing the front tires when I have the weight on the rear.

It's more of a safe than sorry situation for me.
