Infamous Chevy Chrome

Hey guys..wondering how easy it is to remove the door handles and mirror caps? Instead of buying new takeoffs I was thinking about removing mine, along with the grille housing and getting them painted to color match my truck. Similar to the Rally 2 editions, I think it looks sharp with the grill, headlights, and other items color match the rest of the truck. I have the silver ice metallic. Anyone have the same issues, anyone wanting to trade for the chrome? Let me know what you guys think.

I remember the days when chrome was the way to go. I'm not a big fan of the chrome anymore and would want to convert anything chrome to match body color. Luckily, I have LT for that matter. So handles and mirror caps are body color, bumper and grill are chrome. Good Luck!

Nope, painting over chrome wont hold up, it will flake off in time and over hot/cold cycles. Just buy the GM primed parts and paint & clear them, allow to cure, ensure they are good, then swap them. Very little down time this way. Additionally chrome parts are thicker due to the primer and copper required for the chrome to adhere.

Sometimes it cost money, to save money.

It's not real chrome. I painted my "chrome" mirror caps on my 2000 silverado, sold in 2009 and they held up fine never had an issue.

I hear everyone saying "it's not real leather," now, it's not real chrome?

I got a huge rock peck, so I know the windshield is real glass at least. And I replaced the tires week 1 and made sure I got real rubber.,,

No I wouldn't paint over the chrome, would need to take it off and start over, but I do like the idea of buying the GM primed parts and painting those, at least it wouldn't be so damn spendy as buying color matched/take offs. It's unreal how much they charge for those pieces of plastic
